Linux port? (20 penguins)

Yo. I frequently use Linux. Not because I’m some kind of elitist, but because Windows 10 is a slow piece of trash that slows down even internet related activities. I was just wondering if there was ever talk of an Overwatch port to Linux. I know that windows is able to play with linux ports just fine, as seen with TF2.

Blizzard never released a game with support for Linux.
Heck, they aren’t even releasing Overwatch for Mac.
So, I doubt there ever will be a Linux version.

Wine. Valve invest pretty much money to this emulator. Try it.

Does it matters? Why are you asking?
It’s really strange to ask for port on not popular OS. MAC and unix players would be <1% of player pool. Not worth.

Also don’t you need an available Overwatch license to post here on the forums???

I ask not to be rude. I just want to make sure that I don’t misinterpret anything.

I own this game on PC and my xbox. I don’t know why that would even come up.

That explains it. Anyway, is playing with wine allowed? I thought they gave a hard “no” to that.

No. If overwatch works with wine, them I’m thrilled. I’ll do it right away. I just need to make sure that I won’t get banned for it. This line here concerns me from the licensing agreement:

Unauthorized Connections: Facilitate, create or maintain any unauthorized connection to the Platform including without limitation (i) any connection to any unauthorized server that emulates, or attempts to emulate, the Platform; and (ii) any connection using third-party programs or tools not expressly authorized by Blizzard.

Actually there was a WoW beta version that ran on Linux. Didn’t make it to release though. :stuck_out_tongue: Early WoW versions also supported OpenGL instead of just DX, running faster on WINE than on native Windows :).

Yes, Win 10 is unusable. I use Win 7 for that reason when Windows cannot be avoided, which is just for a bunch of games. Many others already work on Linux fortunately. That’s also why I prefer Steam over Blizzard.

True by the way. Some of player (less of them) got banned for linux, but they got their amnesty very fast, blizz apologyzed and promised that will happen never again.
