On all roles. Played around 10 games so far.
As a tank:
I played zarya and ball. wow, my bubbles are now more useful proactively rather than defensively, I like that. As ball, I could finally find my purpuse of distracting and disrupt the enemy team without my team being stuck in a choke or being disconnected. I could actually setup plays much more naturally.
As a DPS:
I played soldier, bastion and junkrat.
Soldier is just nice to roam around and take angles, doesn’t change that much. What I’ve noticed is that the tanks are more busy with tank trades, which again, opened up opportunitues for me to make plays on their squishies instead of constantly having to contest space and run away from the single tank. Bastion feels useful to help with the tank trade, more so than in the normal mode. Again, the distraction of 4 tanks fighting eachother opens up the game. As Junkrat, nothing really changed that much, he’s still very map dependent but can also be good in disrupting and take advantage of the tank trade.

I played Ana. She really shines in this mode. Nade is very strong and being able to play on distance on certain maps feels really good. You can still help with damage and kill squishies. there are more decisions to make but I find that quite fun, it adds depth to the playstyle.
I’m going to be playing this mode for the weekend and make a final verdict. Is it better than 6v6? who knows. visual clutter might be the issue there as well as the engine. We’ll see.

Ana is strong in every mode
yeah only issue from this mode is that ana once again is everywhere
time to get rid of antinade as an ability
Yeah, Zarya’s a blast in this mode. Bubbles are as incredibly valuable as they ever were on a co-tank, but unlike back then, if I’m solo tanking then I can spend them all on myself to stay in the fight. Not that solo tanking has been an issue so far. There may not be two tanks at the start, but there’s usually two tanks by the end.
As far as 5v5 or 6v6 goes: I don’t mind because my suggestion for improvement applies to either. And that suggestion is that DPS are not limited, so that the last guys to pick aren’t locked out of the most popular role.
I think Ana’s less of an issue in this mode because Zarya doesn’t take up the only tank slot, and she still has universal bubble charges. Ram plus Zarya seems really strong to me. JQ plus Zarya is also hella good. She works just fine with Mauga or Hog, but Sigma might be the better anti-Ana pick in their case.

I don’t care what the nayers say. Game hasn’t been this fun for ages.

Facts, just like ow1. She was a solo power house back then
Question is why wouldn’t you not play 2 tanks every time
Because it’s not mandatory.
1 tank can work if the rest of your team swaps heroes accordingly or plays to enable them.
Against a hog, bastion, sigma, widow. Very little you can do if your team keeps trying to 1v5.
It’s an awful representation what the mode could be.
Tanks are not balanced, they just said eff it make OQ settings but limit the roles to 2.
Mauga and Ram are unusable.
It’s just a fan service for rein Zarya enjoyers.
Wasted opportunity, like a classic Tuesday at the HQ.
IS THAT A SOJORN PFP? how did you get that onto the forums!
Working perfectly fine in high master lobbies.
Ram+zarya in particular is very strong. Rams ability to punch all 5 enemies even through shield during grav wins fights.
This is just the benchmark test.
There will be more experiments in the future that change more stuff.
We’ll get the “kingmaker” mode in the future where the role with a single player will get buffs, for example.
I’m sure there will be modes where tanks are nerfed according to some of the data they get from this test.
