LFG and lack of Voice Chat

If 90% of games are quiet where no one joins voice chat, or they do join and not talk, why can’t we have a place to find people who want to talk in game again?

The people I normally play with always join voice, and 9 times out of 10, were the only ones who are there. I get why people don’t join, the toxicity can be crazy at times and I’ll mute those people. But with the vans coming in from people who just don’t want to hear other people talk is out of control.

Can we get a filter in game for people who have voice chat on auto-join, or maybe a feature to look for a group named Mics Only…? Why was it taken away in the first place?

Men, who won´t accept girls playing the game in 2023.
I only join voice chat, when playing with friends. I had enough of harrasment, sexism and hitting on.
Nope, thanks.

I am pretty much always in team voice chat. Rarely say anything tho; not much reason to in non comp anyways.

Blame the report system. People, including myself, are too uneasy being in chat at all, for fear of getting reported. Even a false one gets counted as a strike, the same as just reports.

Also the player base has been dwindling for ages. These two factors together make for almost entirely silent lobbies.

We’re reaping what we sow, imo. We wanted less toxicity, so now games are silent. What fun.

Group up, or just get used to the crickets :frowning:

Not sure what the quote is meant to pertain to in reference to your reply, I get why you wouldn’t join. But why are t there ways to find people who want to talk?

How do you imagin such way?
I live in Europe. There is almost 50 countries - each with their own language + I meet on EU server also people from Arabic countries and Africa. If I join VC, I listen, if anybody even talks english and also I listen, if people are toxic or safe to talk to.
Which means - usualy I just listen and don´t talk at all.

I miss the good ol’ days of 2016 - 2017. Everyone was always in voice chat and openly talking. Granted that was before the community got toxic and overly competitive.

I wouldn’t join VC or interact with anyone in the text chat. It just gives strangers ammunition to report you even if it isn’t against TOS. Then you’ll have to go through Blizzard’s abysmal CS eventually to the point they finally review what was said and remove the ban. There’s supposed to be some sort of punishment for false reports but without Blizzard confirming this I highly doubt it.

I edited my last comment, sorry for the wrong word. I meant to say I get why you wouldn’t join.

I would like a feature to be able to find people who want to communicate though. It doesn’t have to be shotcalling or continuous talking, but people to communicate with while playing the game is all I’m asking for.

I’ve played on the EU servers a couple of times and it is a nightmare trying to communicate so I understand your frustrations with it.

i have 65% winrate without voice, so why bother

Sure, I get that. The LFG feature used to be open to creating a group where people could look for like minded groups of people looking to queue together. For comp, qp, arcade, drunk n high, there were groups for everything.

I understand why people don’t want to join, that is not what I am trying to question in this post. Why haven’t we been given the means to find people through matters that aren’t “luck of the draw” to play how we want to play?

I met some nice and not so nice people from LFG in the past. There’s a guy I added and regularly talk to for years now from there. I still wouldn’t risk communicating with anyone with how the Defense Matrix is these days.

“Risk communicating with anyone” is a crazy thing to even hear someone say, nevertheless be right about. Defense Matrix has scared the community into silence in-game.

Overwatch is a team, objective-based, hero shooter. How can you expect silence and a good (winning) outcome without some sort of communication? Sure, the ping system is there, but what about other things like ULT tracking, ability cooldowns, or comboing ults?

It’s aggravating and disheartening to see the community scared to go into voice because fear of being a victim of misogyny or risk being falsely reported and banned. The community has gotten too toxic on one end and too soft on the other.

Sure, but like. EVERYONE online gets harassed, that’s just online for you. I talk once and women jump on me for my accent everytime when I solo queue.

This is what I do too. Would be nice if players could see that I am in voice/text chat on the scoreboard.

Yes, but being a female in male dominated place like PC games is a bit different…

yes and no. I’m going to be honest, if you played anything online back in the day. It didn’t matter who, what, race, age or gender you were. The trash talk was equal to everyone. I play with my duo quite a bit whos a female and I get more trash talk towards myself than she does. Could just be personal experience but still.

Trash talk is one thing. Getting humiliated just because “you are a woman” + harrasment, hitting on, etc. - that is a different expirience.
I know that, cause I tried both - having a female name, speaking in voice chat and having a neutral name, pretend to be a “dude” and don´t speak in Voice chat - getting just “usual trashtalk”.
Guess what I chose to keep…

Yup it happens. It’s disgusting but sadly only thing you can do is ignore, mute and report.
