So I’m near plat right now and there’s something that bothers me about ranking and that is getting ranked with Silver, Gold, and Plat portraits every game.
Now normally I wouldn’t have a problem with this till I’ve lately been noticing that getting matched with higher level players tends to be that they have more experience than me and others, they’re also not smurfs so it’s that they’ve been in that rank for a while and I understand some of you may say that makes them bad but it doesn’t. No matter how bad they may seem a higher level player always has more experience than others. Now imagine your in T500 vs another T500 but your in level 100 and he’s in level 1000, now who’s going to win?Obviously the player with more experience so.
So what I’m proposing in this topic is that level matching becomes a bit more balanced for example, bronze portraits stay with bronze portraits and silver stay with low gold, high bronze, and all-around silver portraits.
What do you guys think. (Please respond in a respectful and mature manner.)
experience doesn’t matter, they’re platinum border plats and they’re one star bronze portraits it doesn’t make a difference

Experience doesn’t matter? With all do respect, the two things that matter most in games like OW is experience and skill.

Level doesn’t necessarily matter. I got most of my levels during xp events. I played like hek during these events, for loot boxes & xp. Other people who are lower level could have played just as much as me, but not during these xp events.
If experiance mattered they wouldn’t be so many high portraits in lower ranks. I went from bronze to masters in 600+ levels but I see gold portraits in silver. I also see legitimate 4 star bronze portraits in gm and such.
I can tell you every single time i have a lvl 30ish in my team and the opposant dont i can bet 90% sure i lose this game. Experience doesnt matter as much as skill. But hey the dude is at the same rank meaning he is of equal “skill” yet doesnt have the experience . Doesnt know hoe to counter pick etc etc . So ya maybe it matter less than skill but come on experience does matter. Now honestly i would like to see a separate lvl from arcade/qp to competitive game.
Everyone learns at different rates. Everyone has different sources of information. Everyone plays in a different environment, on a different schedule, at different times, on different heroes, with different people, etc. etc. etc.
You can’t factor in level or even hours during the matchmaking process because the people behind those levels are, shock, real people and you can’t account for the hundreds of things that influence their rate of learning. This is exactly the reason why we have platinum borders in silver and bronze borders in diamond. It’s not like that level 800 player is leagues better than you. If they were, they wouldn’t be at your rank. Of course people are going to learn through experience, but the amount of experience it takes to learn certain things and the nature of those things varies from person to person. Of course there are going to be people at the same rank that have certain bits of knowledge others don’t because we are human beings. I don’t know how else to put this because it’s as simple as that.
So yeah, level doesn’t matter.
When it comes to levels of the people on my team I wish I had the choice to request to only be in games with people who have Prestige 1 or more. Almost every time I’ve had someone who is lower than that in my games, they either a) throw, b) are a smurf on the enemy team, or c) literally have no goshdarn idea what they’re doing and cost us the game.
It’s a whole lotta feelsbad since I’m a silver portrait and I really do know tons about this game and it’s so frustrating to me to have to basically take my L 1 minute in. I have no problem with people learning how to play the game but if you have no idea what you’re doing you shouldn’t be in competitive.
I can 100% tell you I didn’t start playing competitive until I was over level 70 and by then I knew more than your average genuine level 25. sigh.

Yeah level really doesn’t matter. I hit master before I got my third star, yet I see plat borders in silver. If anything, I’d prefer being placed against higher leveled players, because it means they truly are at their rank. If you get placed against low rank players it’s possible that they’re on their way up to higher ranks and just passing through.

except that no top 500 is naturally level 100, its 100% an alt account… and it doesnt matter what level players you face against, even if they have experience they are lacking in gameplay
Level doesn’t matter. Someone can get a plat border by doing nothing but random arcade matches and letting their 5 year old play in qp. While someone else stays bronze 1 star by putting hundreds of hours in to watching high level streams, studying pro play, and playing scrims.

Well, thanks for the commentary I see what you guys meant and you brought out good points.

If level doesn’t matter then why can’t we have the option to choose the minimum level of our teammates?
Because it creates longer queues (for everyone, not just those who used it) for no benefit.
You can lfg with the tag “be x level or higher”
Experience levels do not mean anything! This proposal will only increase queue time while not providing any more quality matches.
