People, in OW2 there’s a new feature called ping, if you live in some cave and don’t know what is lets take an example in Apex Legends:
Pings are callouts for communication with teammates without the need for voice or text communication . They cover many actions such as marking enemies, announcing loot, calling “dibs” on announced loot, telling teammates where you are going, and many others.
Why people don’t use ping system in OW2? I can see many matches enemy rushing after kill an teammate and this player don’t ping the enemy.
By default ping system is your mouse wheel click.
How to use ping system
1 tap: Generic Ping
2 fast tap: Danger Warning Ping
Hold mouse wheel: Open ping menu.
While facing to an someone ping:
1 tap: Will respond tag
Hold to open ping menu
While facing to an wounded teammate:
1 tap as support: “Come me for healing” voiceline
While facing to objective icon.
1 tap: “Attack/Defend Objective” voiceline in capture mode.
1 tap: “Move/Defend The Payload” voiceline in payload mode.
1 tap: “Capture/Escort The Robot” voiceline in push mode.
You can explore ping system. This is helpful specially you don’t have mic and isn’t on voice channels.
When facing to enemy gadget (example: Ashe’s BOB, Reaper using teleport, etc)
Will create an in world icon for some seconds displaying which ability/gadget was used.
When someone dies.
After first 3~4 seconds you can 1 tap mouse wheel to ping enemy which killed you. Will display hero icon + distance from last known position of killer + distance from viewer player.
Some enemy pings keeps permanent while in player LOS, you can use this to track enemy position.
This is very helpful and i played since many matches i had played, was about 94% of them players didn’t used ping system any time…
When the announcer gets to about “2” in the countdown to open the spawn doors, I start another countdown running, “in 3, 2, 1…”, and then as I’m on my way to the point, “in 3, 2, 1…”, and also “Attack!”…“Attack!”…“in 3, 2, 1…”, “good news, everyone”…“my ultimate is charging”…“I’m working”…“in 3, 2, 1…”…“Attack!”
I’ve seen professional streams and I just can’t fathom how hearing a ping, and seeing it is slower than saying “ZARYA 1 OVER THERE NEAR THE UHMM BRIDGE OVER THERE”. “Reap up top going to flank” when there are 3 different areas in the backline he can do that. Especially on kings row.
I prefer to play with a team that is premade and able to coordinate rather than a matchmade team of randos that is trying to play a team based game without using teamwork mechanics.
Who hasn’t?
Personal preference, pinging can be helpful but tends to clutter rather than help. It can be useful when supplementing audio input, but not as a standalone mechanic meant as a substitute.
That’s fair, I was asking purely to get a different perspective. It could be just me but the pinging feels as natural and in tune as hearing ult calls now. I didn’t imagine it being an issue when you’re naturally on high alert anyway.
I use it all the time.
Nobody pays attention to it. Very frequently do I ping an enemy over and over and say I need help, and nobody comes or turns around and I die. Then this enemy goes on to ult on the rest of the team, who are all unaware because they weren’t paying attention.
I personally love the ping system, but I swear to god Blizzard better fix the issues with it.
There’s nothing more annoying than pinging the enemy who killed me, only for it to show the pin miles away. Or trying to pin the enemy right in front of me as Sombra, but instead it prioritizes an enemy who’s low health.
However it’s Blizzard, so they’ll likely never touch the ping system again. Just leave it how it is.
Unlike apex the fights are always in a single point. There is nowhere for an enemy to flank from, or surpise you and instakill you. I dont find it useful. Also the enemies are highlighted in RED anyway, since is babymode fps.
