Let's talk about Overwatch 2 đź•›

So, we’ve all probably seen the leaks/pictures and something isn’t sitting well with me, so i figured i would write it down.

And here they all are, if you haven’t seen them:

(Better version of the above image)

(Apparently this^^ is being sold as prints in the official store)

I’ve seen SO many people and youtubers talking about how “Split” they are, about the “Two games” And… i really cannot say that i think it’s going to be as black and white as that.

I just cannot see it being two “Different games” Especially since one of the largest “Concerns” is about cosmetics.

Why would the team scrap every last cosmetic they have just for a new game to be launched and leave the rest in the dust? They wouldn’t. Probably.

I truly genuinely think this is the second chapter in Overwatch’s history… perhaps not a simple update, or even an expansion as we think of it, but i highly doubt it’s a brand new completely separate game.

Thoughts?

Personally the leveling and “Talent” System from the proposed “PvE leak” looks AMAZING to me…

Most leaks are saying it’s a new game, and that they’re bidding the old one farewell. New engine and stuff.

I hope it’s an expansion. But I’m expecting the worst.

I mean, almost all the leaks we have so far are suggesting some sort of sequel separate from the original game. At this point, we just gotta be optimistic. But Blizzard can be sure that I ain’t paying a dime for revamped version of a game I already have. Especially when I can’t keep my in-game items I payed money for.

What if they attempt to port the original game to a new engine?
I know nothing about this stuff, but… well, what if they made it work, along with the new content in an expansion?

That would be something worth seeing.

Metro mentioned its likely to be a Fortnite situation. A complete rebuild but an update for existing players.

I’m not sure, but I’m worried for the switch users. Updates models and big PVE battles probably wont run well.

Lol that logo looks like a half life 2 rip off. But then again this game is not super creative.

I’m not sure why the game is on switch in the first place…

That would still be more promising than just two games and leaving the last one in the dust.

I’m willing to spend money to buy a stand-alone PvE game, but that’s just me.

People often see the bad thing about it, but the good thing about OW2 is that they will migrate the Casual players to OW2 while retaining the Competitive player in OW1. It also makes re-balancing OW1 easier since they don’t have to concern them too much about balancing it for the more casual players who care more about fun than balance. I mean, how tire of you guys hearing player balance suggestion because of “Fun” being the main argument over balance.

As for me, who love Co-op PvE games like L4D, KF, PayDay, Monster Hunter World, etc. I am excited about OW2.

i want to believe that it will be free to play and they will switch to fortnite model of paid season access with immediate bans for misbehavior

if they do this i will play

I just realised something. The word gaps in “Select a Talent” are a bit off. Just wanted to point that out.

If these are real, they all seem to be half finished… in development.

If it’s a new game it won’t kill Overwatch 1 at all. Overwatch 1 is still going to be releasing new maps and heroes probably at the same rate. They said they’re aiming for 35 or 40 heroes by the end of Overwatch. So we have another year or two, which would conveniently be when Overwatch 2 comes out.

Overwatch two wouldn’t be able to have the same cosmetics because by the looks of it, it’s a new engine - which is great. They’ll have new skins, probably some old skins, and a whole lot more new content for us.

Keeping in mind as well it’s PVE not PVP focused, so cosmetics aren’t going to be the biggest thing in the game and there’s probably going to be easier ways to unlock cosmetics than lootboxes.

They’re two different experiences so

What i’m hoping is for a mix of the two… possibly a port of the old Overwatch into the new.

Leaks suggest some small PVP mode, so maybe skirmishes or something

Metro said it’s supposed to be out by 2020.

It really does look like a very early iteration to come out so soon.

You do know that 3D models can be reused in multiple games, right? Look for the video on Overwatch x Street fighter

There’a nothing to scrap.

But I also don’t quite understand what you mean, care to explain?

There’s two things I’m really curious about: PvP balance and the hero talents.

The talents show Tracer has 3 sets of two abilities to choose from:

Makes me wonder what Bastion or Junkrat could have

Also, I wonder what direction they’ll take with balance. Word has it balance is getting a full revamp, so I wonder which heroes might get reworked and who will get buffed/nerfed and how so.

If it’s real it’s concept art for internal use only. The name “Overwatch 2” and the logo are probably just placeholders anyway.

This is exactly what i mean.

I think they’ll port the models into the new engine, maybe fix a few things about them.
