Let's stop using the term "DPS"

And let’s start referring to these characters as “Damage heroes”. Because that’s officially what they are now.

The term “DPS” has been around forever, it isn’t something made up for Overwatch. It’ll continue to be used to refer to people that do damage for every game ever.

Does it really matter.

Of course it doesn’t, but I just thought it’s even easier to understand

I always used damage because its rather redundant when ALL heroes are dps. If they can damage another hero than they do “dps”. But people will use what term they want so asking them to change because you want them to is kinda funny.

I dont care either way at this point. As the Yoyo said “does it matter?” Lol

All heroes deal damage.
All heroes deal DPS.

One is merely emphasizing the importance of every second.

It’s essentially the same thing.

The term is a carryover from the MMORPG period. They have the same functional meaning in the English language and gamer lexicon.

This is kind of like how some gamers still argue about META and the latin-root of “meta” that it derives from.

It’s pointless to argue about so long as everyone understands what you mean. And you’re not going to change the vocabulary unless there is a real need to differentiate damage heroes from dps heroes; like using damage to talk about burst damage heroes (junkrat) and dps heroes for sustained dps (S76).

No.ᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠ

Why? It’s a term that’s been around for donkeys years, is easier to say and type quickly and means exactly the same thing.

DPS was around when they were called “Defense” and “Offense” (like they are in the live patches right now). We still called them “DPS” because they did damage… per second…

Department of Public Safety?? JK

Oh boy, I sure have no idea :stuck_out_tongue:

All I’m saying is that the unofficial category that was known as “DPS” was made official under the name “Damage”, so we might as well adopt this name. At least, that’s what I’m gonna do.

League of Legends changed ADC to Marksman.

Want to guess what the gaming community still says?

I agree. Things sound way too lifeless when they’re simply called ‘DPS’. It doesn’t even sound catchy either.

technically speaking. damage is better than dps. a lot of “dps” are not dps. they are either burst damage. or other types of damage.

I suppose we should start calling supports HPS heroes too then :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I know it might be bothersome that the community doesn’t stick with proper names OP, but honestly, that’s just the nature of communication. People tend to gravitate towards simpler terminology. Nothing we can do about it :woman_shrugging:
