Let’s talk Ashe’s design

Love the new gameplay of Ashe but if I feel I had to state my opinion on her design. It’s not BAD, but part’s of it do bug me.

For one it’s her eyes. A big complaint I have about the female cast of Overwatch are how the female characters all share similar eyes. Which I think contributes to the same face syndrome complaints people have. They all have pretty big eyes with bold winged eyeliner. Personally i don’t think the female cast all look as similar as people make them out to be. Yeah, the males have more diverse looks but not all the females look that similar since I don’t think anyone can truly say they’ve mixed up two of the female charcters. But a lot of them do share similar features. Like young looking skin, anime like eyes, and a fairly slender frame. Only females deviating from this being Mei, Zarya, Moira, and obviously Orisa. It’s really odd looking to see that Ashe is 39 but looks 24 despite her profession. Character like Mercy and Mei do have lore reasons for them looking young despite them being much older but for Ashe, it doesn’t make sense. I suppose you can argue that it has something to do with her money and wealth but I doubt it and that kinda sounds like a cheap excuse. I would just like to see female characters going forward to deviate from the norm just a bit. I feel they hit the nail on the head with Moira but they need to do more in my opinion and I know their capable of doing so.

Also her design while cool looking feels kinda generic in a sense. I know she’s meant to look western but I feel more could have been done with it. It just feels like she was made more for the short and not so much the game, if that makes any sense to you?

But all in all she looks like a cool character and I can’t wait to actually try her when she drops! . Also she’s voiced by the legendary Jennifer Hale so that’s a big golden star in my book!

What are your thoughts on Ashe? Love her? Hate her? Still on the fence?

She looks cool and simple just like any cowboy should, she is a high skilled aim based DPS and have an additional tank for her ult, and yeah Jennifer Hale is just rocks.
What’s not to love about her ?

I’m not impressed with Ashe, honestly. She’s just another tough female that’s voice by a well know VA.
I think Blizzard should’ve gone with her Omnic Bodyguard, Bob, as a new Tank hero or even go with Echo.
With her position as the Dreadlock Gang leader, she probably would’ve been best as an NPC, there was no reason to add her as a hero since it seems out of the blue.

Regardless, I’d rather have Ashe then the Junkertown Queen.

I’m fine with her looking simple like a cowboy but I feel like she’s missing that certain “flair” I guess I should say that helps her design. It why I say she felt more made for the short than she did for the game but maybe that’s just me lol not much else to complain about her design aside from that for me lol.

Echo was sorta already confirmed as a work in progress since they said she still needs more development lol but yeah I almost wish they didn’t add her in the short because they kinda stole the whole focus same with Bob. Which in my opinion really highlights how weak Ashe’s design is since two other characters basically stole the spotlight from her.

That’s probably because he’s was made out of the blue! She was made for the short but the devs loved her so much that they fleshed her out more and made her a playable character. Which I think is new for a character in OW. Since most of them a]have been played for years, they just haven’t been publicly known yet. Like Hammond for example has been planned for a few years now but Ashe (if this short has been in production for a year) was kinda made right on the spot. It’s not bad, it’s certainly a surprise but it’s quite different.

Part of me low-key believes the only reason she’s playable is because Echo isn’t ready yet and they can’t go into Blizcon without showing something
