Actually yes. Check this out, so I wad queuing with my homies. We was talking about role queue and whether we liked it or not. I was all, “it is mostly fun, but the queue times, man” and they were like, “word?”

Anyways, we waited 8 minutes. Both of them queued for support. We had 1/3 of the team in a more desirable slot and me on DPS. Half the team ready to go.

Next game, one of them selects DPS as well. 5 minutes for 2 DPS and 1 support.

What that means is a negligible difference in player population in my region at that time was influencing the queue by minutes at a time.

So yes, more freaking DPS at my rank would absolutely turn 10 minutes solo queue into 11 or maybe 12 minutes depending on what matches are ongoing.

You’re kinda ignoring the scale here.

~30% of the playerbase is in Plat
~10% if the playerbase is in Diamond

Let’s imagine 40% of the Diamond players are DPS.

So that’s 4% of the players

At worst we’re talking 1% moving from Diamond to Plat, probably less.

And at the same time DPS in Plat would be falling down to low Plat and Gold. So it might end up being a net 0%.

Possibly even net negative population growth in Platinum.

Do you think more than 1% of the playerbase shifted my times from 8 minutes on a favorable queue to 5 minutes on a disfavorable queue? No. What matters is that tanks and supports are not already in a match. That is what reduces the wait time and the line gets longer. Even if only 1 DPS is added to my matchmaking pool, if their SR/MMR is a better fit, they snipe my position. To which point, I guess most diamonds would still probably be snubbed.

Okay. Let’s pretend this had 0% consequence on queue times, it would still ruin games. You think that gold Zen can take that diamond Widow? No. He is dead. Over and over again. I have seen it happen already because the matchmaking is loose. People in gold are not used to Widow who land the majority of their shots… And aim for the head.

I think that’s a matter of shifting things gradually.

A 1000SR difference would be kinda crazy, but a 200SR difference is probably fine.

Also

(30 percent pop/31 percent pop)*10 minutes = 10 minutes and 20 seconds.

And that’s probably a generous overestimate.

Or let people get the sr they deserve?

What’s “normal” for a system that is only a week old?

Hard to believe DPS mains have trouble understanding why people think they’re elitist clowns when you have threads like this pop up.

No. You should earn SR based on wins and performance no matter what hero you are playing.

so, youre not in platinum or above. why do you care ?

Basically results in the bulk of the population fighting dps smurfs in every game.

I usually play in High Plat, but been kinda busy with work and theory crafting how to make Overwatch better.

Marginally more difficult DPS at opponents and teammates.

I find it hard to believe that people find a way to demonize everything pertaining to DPS… Even threads where people are suggesting that DPS should earn less for being better. Thanks, DPS! Did you hear what the DPS mains are doing in China? It is terrible.

And any real counter-arguments besides “bad”?
