What are Legacy skins also do the have possibility of returning ? have they ever opened the vault and let you get these skins again ?
Legacy skins are the ones where theyre only available for an event challenge (ex. the Peppermint Brig Skin for Winterland where you had to win 9 games for it) or for a short amount of time (Pink Mercy for breast cancer charity). As far as I know, theyâve never re-released legacy skins and I donât think they plan to (but theyâve never said anything about this).
TL;DR - Most Legacy cosmetics are tied to the Overwatch League and BlizzCon with a few coming from one-time events. In rare cases, some are made available again temporarily.
The weekly skins during the seasonal events are not included in the Legacy category; they are tied to their respective seasonal event when filtering the hero gallery. Since they were introduced in Summer Games 2019, none of those weekly event cosmetics have been made available since they were initially unlockable. Itâs not just the seasonal events; there are other cosmetics not tied to the Legacy category that can no longer be unlocked, like the OWL 2021 Tournament and Grand Final sprays.

BlizzCon exclusive skins - 4 skins* (2016 - Bastion, 2017 - Winston, 2019 - Genji and Symmetra) *Reinhardtâs âRaynhardtâ skin will become the 5th legacy skin in this category after âThe Celebration Collectionâ (30th Anniversary bundle) is no longer available after February 20, 2022.
OWL 2018 skins for SF Shock, LA Valiant, and FL Mayhem before the team color change in 2019 - 186 skins (31 heroes - before Echo, home and away for 3 teams = 31 * 2 * 3)
Watching 2018 OWL Grand Finals - 4 sprays
Watching 2019 OWL Grand Finals - 2 sprays
OWL 2019 MVP - 1 skin (Zarya)
OWL 2020 Championship - 1 skin (Roadhog)

OWL 2021 Tournament skins - 3 skins* (Mei, Widow, Ana) *Bastion also got a legacy skin for the Countdown Cup, but Iâm not seeing it get filtered with the Legacy option.
Cosmetics that were legacy, but were temporarily made available a 2nd time:
OWL All-Star skins - 6 skins (2018 - Tracer, Genji; 2019 - Mercy, Lucio; 2020 - Reinhardt, D.Va) Made available again during a promotion during OWL 2021 season.
Misc. OWL skins - 4 skins (2018 - Winston, Zenyatta; 2019 - Doomfist; 2020 - Brigitte) Also made available again during a promotion during OWL 2021 season.
BlizzCon 2018 skin (Sombra) - Originally exclusive to BlizzCon 2018, then made available as one of the weekly rewards during Halloween Terror 2019.

letâs make it clear: this skin was announced as an exclusive Blizz on 2018 with a small notice that it would be made free on a future occasion (more precisely Halloween terror 2019 as a weekly skin). today we donât know if or when it will return, just like the other weekly skins.

True, but I think for the 11 months it was exclusive to BlizzCon ticket holders, I believe it was categorized as Legacy. Regardless, this was an edge case that I felt needed to be mentioned, considering the other 4 BlizzCon skins are all flagged as Legacy, and someone might ask âwhat about BlizzCon 2018?â. The fact it was made available only one other time, it aligned with the other âonce legacy, but made available laterâ cosmetics.

THANK YOU SO MUCHHHH I literally thought I lost the opportunity to get the rein skin I bought it just right now not to lose it and this was super helpful , I wish they would bring back the alien zarya thats one skin I really want that I see in legacy

If you are talking about the one I think you are (Alien-ish Zarya in a Business Suit) I donât speak for blizzard, but I can basically guarantee that one will never return because of the following.
It was a commendation / recognition skin for an OWL Pro player Sinatraa and was summarily removed and refunded to anyone who bought it, as the player in question had [gotten reported for / convicted of] sexual assault allegations by his girlfriend with documents stating she had audio/visual evidence.
Itâs part of the reason why Blizzard stated they will no longer be creating skins for individuals anymore, only team-based skins.

yeah I just read that , its so unfortunate its an amazing skin and my favorite zarya skin "her skins are really bad " I was really hoping that one would come back because its really great

And the skin hasnât been removed. There was a very minor update to its appearance (absolutely invisible if you donât know where to look), and people who asked for a refund got one. The others kept the skin.
Indeed, I was thinking of looking up the deadline for this, since I knew it would be available for some time still. I actually thought it ended in September last year, good to know that there is still time.
Iâm not the type to spend on microtransactions, never did and never hope to, plus I donât really play Rein that much, but the skin is nice, plus I never spent a dime after buying the game on launch so I might do it for the first time ever for this skin, who knows

Iâm actually a big person on skins who doesnât mind the micro transactions itâs more of the âwanting a complete collection â sort of thing so Iâm really big on skins even if I dont play the hero much
I hear you on that, Iâm the same up to only free stuff though.
Speaking of which, I just saw that the minimum cost for the package is $39.99, which is a lot for me considering that not only am I on console and I donât play any of the other games in the package, but that price is close to what I paid for the preorder of the game before launch in the first place. Wish I could just get the skin alone in this case, but at least I have the time to think about it.

yeah same I play console , when I 1st started playing it was right after the all star skins for tracer came out and tracer was my main and the skin was AMAZING I was mad I started playing literally 1 month after the skin was released so ever since then iv been getting the skins non stop I dont want to miss the opportunity in case I pick up that hero

This is often misinterpreted by a Tweet she made. And even said she didnât drop anything afterwards.
But yes, a lot of these skins will not be returning, but who knows if this is still valid when OW2 is out.

They actually changed the date - probably because they initially planned to replace it with a new BlizzCon(line) Skin.
Which is now most likely not happening, so I guess they prolonged the duration to make more money with it.
