"Legacy Cosmetics" in OW2

Blizz has been regularly opening the vault on their collection of “timed exclusive” OW1 skins over the past year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for all the players who didn’t get to collect them the first time, but seeing as this is ACTIVISION Blizzard… I find it kinda sus.

We know that OW1 skins will carry over to OW2. I have my suspicions about their availability afterwards.

I’m willing to bet that in order to push demand for all the new cosmetics they’re making for OW2, Actiblizz will have all of the skins/etc. from OW1 classified as “Legacy Cosmetics.”

AKA: unobtainable unless you played OW1 and unlocked it there, before they make Big Switch to OW2.

Fill out your hero gallery while you still can.

They only brought back OWL legendaries and these weekly challenge skins. Skins like Blizzcon and Noire won’t come back

I don’t think they would lock them out since it’s less content for the new players they want to bring in.

Good for you if you already have them?

My point is that I think that Activision will try to pull a fast one with OW1 cosmetics.

$50 skins and a pre-order bonus. NO WAY they’re coming back. Especially Noire. It was made SPECIFICALLY to differentiate earliest/pre-order players from players who bought the game later or after seeing gameplay vids etc.

They started relasing legacy skins like no tomorrow. What makes you think they are going to do the opposite?

If anything, they have more interest of of making the OW1 skins obsolete by lowering their value by giving them away to push you towards buying OW2.

Outside of a few skins, everything will most likely come back in OW2. They will likely be purchasable for cash or an exorbitant amount of in game currency.

I don’t care about those skins. That’s not what this topic is about.

To say it plainly: I’m worried that the current version of Overwatch’s ENTIRE HERO GALLERY (not just the timed exclusive skins. ALL of the cosmetics, right down to the default skins and stock poses) will become unobtainable in OW2 except as a “legacy option” for the players who’ve already unlocked them in OW1.

If that happens, it would screw over new OW2 players who never played OW1.

Now, is this a bad thing or not ?

On one side, they’re just skins, and they will release more exclusive skins in the future that players will be able to get their hands on for a limited period of time. And older players will always like using these skins knowing they are more “rare”, even if in the end it doesn’t matter.

It also shows the dedication of a player who may have been playing the game since the very early days and helped contribute for example to the Breast Cancer charity back in 2017, in that case I believe it is normal for most players who have the Pink Mercy skin to not want to come back, because it’s an “OG” skin that shows they’ve been playing for a long time and donated for a good cause.

On the other side, some of these old skins do look really cool, like Noire Widowmaker, Pink Mercy, Demon Huntress Sombra (Considering it was part of an event, I don’t know if it will come back), and the Origins skins. To be fair, there really isn’t a lot of “Legacy” skins. And some would say it is “unfair” that only older players get to access these skins (in my opinion most of the people who say this are rather jealous.)

Personally, I kind of have a divided opinion on that, though I do lean more towards the first one. I believe that it is kind of normal older players have access to older skins that are not available anymore, because they are older players who have been playing the game since a long time and stayed dedicated to it. But I also think it is normal for newer players to want older skins, because some of them look really nice.

No way. That’s like, I don’t know, 200 legendary skins alone. Not only would that discourage any new players, that’s just removing content on your own.

That requires them to have a lot of new cosmetics to push. Don’t think there’s gonna be enough in time for the split release.

They will not ever do that. Blizzard has always been pretty fond of keeping exclusive to bought skins of a package (Bonus to Blizzcon tickets or pre-order bonus or BCRF Pink Mercy).

These skins will not come back.

The main one I could see remaining exclusive is Lego Bastion.

I doubt the Lego company wants to be involved with ActiBlizz‘s legal stuff in the future.

I think this just goes to show that people shouldn’t assume that the “Legacy” label is what they is supposedly think it means, which, in their sorry little fantasy universe, is: “ONE-TIME EXCLUSIVE product. Guaranteed to NEVER to return!”

Guess you aren’t that unique or important with that time-limited content after all (good riddance to that special train of thought)!

Nah, I’ll bet that at the very least, they’ll make them available again each year during the Anniversary Event.

Or Blizzard can put all those skins under Battle pass system in OW2 to earn more money if money is all Blizzard needs.
