If the playerbase isn’t split they straight up leave
It’s as simple as that, not need to defend such a bad practice

Provided evidence above. OW1 servers were supposed to remain. OW2 and OW1 would eventually merge, but OW1 would be a thing until players stop wanting to play matches. Literally from the Dev’s mouth. Did you even look at the thread? Am I going to have to give more instances where the same thing was said? Did you even pay attention to the information being released or did you, like I assume others did, tune out anything to do with OW 1 because you knew you were getting OW2?
Really strange that your lot shows up, says fact and reality doesn’t exist, then runs back under your rock never to return.
Thank you for providing these quotes I’ve been looking for this information for a while.
I found a bunch more as I’ve been going through interviews and articles. It’s so much more clear-cut than I even realized. Just outright lied to.
Annual hero packs valued at $100 a pop, (with battle passes bundled in) just like Destiny 2 does it lesgo!
Nah. 1-time purchase or bust.
I was joking, dw, but yeah I feel like the Founders/Watchpoint pack should have been that one off payment to guarantee any future heroes are instantly unlocked while still having them unlock with minimal work for the majority (since, again, it shouldn’t be paywalled or locked behind much of a grind, if any, imo, since this game has very rigid metas - if you ever get into a GM game and don’t pick one of the 2 heroes you’re allowed to, get ready to be flamed hard. Sick of that crap, personally) but only so long as there is still some sort of sustainable model like the BP present since otherwise we go back to the problem with OW1.
Overwatch was one of the top 1-5 viewed games on Twitch for years, still very popular, profitable, and winning awards, right up until they announced OW2 and killed the game. It feels like people forgot how successful Overwatch was. Even OWL was a success. When they announced OW2, they diverted resources and people felt it. I get that a constant revenue stream is the new norm, but there has to be a better way than milking long-time devoted players, completely upending the game, and breaking promises. I’m well aware that it’s far too late to fix the mess, so that is why I am asking for them to just let me play my game and leave me alone. I once said I’d go down with the ship if Overwatch died a slow death, and I absolutely meant it.
I want to continue playing OW1 for years to come.
The smart move is to give without taking and ensure your new product is good enough to stand, without the need to take.
If the new product is good enough to exist in the first place people will naturally migrate over and the remainders will also have what they want.
If the new battlefield erased their old game the franchise would have. died. period. All it takes is 5 mins on google to see they already shut down the new servers and the only thing keep it going is the old game.
We, us, the devs, the exec’s can all literally have what they want if we all stop working against each other.
Same… Unfortunately there are too many people who completely forgot what PC gaming was before Fortnite. There’s a dying breed of OG gamers who made these companies the billions they’ve made who just gave up way too fast. The others are just too passive. If I seem passionate about the game, it’s because I paid for it. It is one of the few games I’ve taken so much pleasure in playing and invested so much in.

So you are saying within the first 6 months? 3 months if we are optimistic?
Well, can’t really tell. It depends if new players are going to spend a lot of money on F2P Overwatch. I don’t know what Blizzard’s goal is (in terms of earning money) to consider that new version of Overwatch 1 a success or a failure :p…
They just need to leave it alone. Maybe this potential delay going on right now has something to do with all the blowback. Hope they scrap the whole damn thing.
Casual players destroy PC market since ages…
“Do this thing Developer, I know better and I speak for the whole community!”
Yeah no. If developers were to cater people that can’t adapt to changes, then no heroes or maps would be release ever. This is not that type of game.
Fixed it for you. This is exactly what your posts sound like.
Woah great response buddy. You totally “win” this one.
Now that you said that, your thread does not sound like a direct order at all and like you know better. My bad
A direct order? It was stated that overwatch 2 would be its own game and that ow1 servers would remain as long as players wanted matches. A direct order or asking them to keep to their word? The only reason that most people accepted when they said they would merge was because it was supposed to be the same game. Forced BP interaction in order to play the full game fundamentally changes the game. With it being a different game, they should absolutely leave overwatch 1 alone.
The concept of hero aquirement, skin aquirement is different and was a selling point for me. It only changed with ow2 merging with ow1.
I will just stop playing blizzard games now. Ty for removing my game addiction.
