A 20 min penalty for leaving a game because I don’t want to play against a team that is obviously professional is kind of rediculous. I can’t even return to the match afterwards.

You didn’t get a 20 min penalty for leaving a single game. You got it for leaving 20% of your matches.
Gaps of time in between those matches doesn’t change when you get the time out either. So, if you got a penalty but are confused because you haven’t played recently: that’s why.
I think the point I’m trying to make: Is that I shouldn’t be penalized for leaving a game against people that are obviously professionals. It isn’t fun.

It’s true, they should have to pay you a salary to play against the Overwatch League players.

Oh I don’t doubt you had a bad time in that game. Been there, it absolutely sucks and is precisely zero fun. But you got penalised for leaving a number of games, not that one game where you got shoved in as canon fodder for a premade three elos higher than you.
You can leave a certain percentage of your games without penalty, that’s what the allowance is for (those games where you’re just being farmed/ the phone goes off/ you have to leave/ you’re ill etc.) But after that you get a slap on the wrist for it.
There is a niche group of players here that want people to remain in matches because they think that somehow people not leaving their matches automatically makes them win, or they believe someone leaving supposedly is the only cause of their loss.
Its something that is an illusion to some that somehow if someone is remaining in their match. that they aren’t going to just stay in and play the game the same way.
Its just trading one set of problems for another. It doesn’t solve for X.
Its just like the war on narcotics, it doesn’t solve anything. When instead they could be trying to have people go to rehab for their substance abuse problems.
Dead by daylight is already doing this “hardcore” approach to Leavers and it is now a highly non productive game for what it has done to itself before it took the approach. Which is why it really isn’t going at the same pace it use to be at.
When the game devs have to create lock-down rules for their matches its because they dont know what to do about the problem, or they refuse to listen to why people press “exit” and they take the same selfish approach of “Well if you dont like what we make, go play another game” … guess what. hardcore players did…
its called going to Private servers of Dead by daylight and nobody gives them money for anything new. Original game design, nobody leaves. You’d think the devs from BHVR inc would listen, nope. So people can go play classic Dead By daylight. and its a heck of a lot better than the junk they unload on players today.
There are other good games that are out this year that are taking the internet by storm.
1 ) Battlebits.
2 ) The Finals
3 ) Marauders.
4 ) DeepRock Galactic.
5 ) Phasmophobia.
