Remember, listening to the loud minority of people has resulted in changes to the game that did not end up being for the better.

Yes, 6v6 obviously should be in the game and should never be removed. The debate will not end until it is in the game.

Lmao 6v6 is inferiour to 5v5

They listened to the minority from eSports, streamers and “online figures” when they introduced 5v5 in the first place.

We got 5v5 for multiple reasons, but imo the main one was queue times.

Whether it is 5v5 or 6v6 no matter which the devs still cannot balance them.

Which is to say, removing one tank was an ultimate admission of their failure to make the role work and balance it so that it’s fun to play. There were many options on the table, they went for the easiest one.

The lazyest one

They were like: We know we have been nerfing tanks multiple times since goats and they have been miserbale to play, also almost no tanks to choose from so we decided to remove 1 tank and make the role even more miserable

Ops…

… and nope

That is tanks in every single game that has tank, dps, support. Tanks are always the least played role. How do they make tanks more attractive to play then, since reducing the amount needed is the easy way out.

Even at the end of ow1, tanks were still the strongest most impactful role. People wanted to off tank, people didn’t want to main tank.

There are many options to attack this problem. None of them are as easy as just removing a tank. Couple of examples:

– Making tanks less mandatory overall.
– Relaxing the 2-2-2 to something like “min 1, max 3”
– Ensuring that sustain gameplay doesn’t dominate

and so on. All of that is easier said then done, but Rivals show (so far) that it is at least a fruitful goal to pursue. OW could start by making it so that barriers are not end-all-be-all in terms of mitigation. It worked when Rein had a monopoly on it, but spiraled out of control explosively when more and more barriers appeared on the field.

How do we do that tho? The game is built on having tanks.

Which just results in 3 tanks 1 dps and 2 supports.

Does that mean nerfing support healing? As current 6v6 test already feels like heal botting a lot.

I have seen tons of rivals Reddit posts complaining about people not picking tanks.

Only time barriers were a big balance issue was during double barrier since they could do ranged dmg while having a barrier, other barrier tanks like rein and Winston couldn’t do that. And were never a double barrier meta. Also we have other forms of dmg not Shari on other than barriers, but people also complain about matrix and the many dmg reduction abilities tanks have.

Supportive roles have always been less popular than big number roles, it’s not unique to OW. Picking a supportive role goes against most players’ definitions of “power fantasy”, relegating them to those who take pleasure in being the “real” reason the team succeeds.

That’s Blizzard craft to figure out. Why do you ask me? But I do know it is possible because 1 tank / no tanks strategies have proven to be possible in a game like Rivals. Even on very high level of plays.

Not if done correctly.

That means what that means. Stuff like AoE healing and barriers need to be kept in check. This is also a partial answer to your previous remark - i.e. how to not have it devolving into 3-3 goats.

… from DPS players who don’t know better. Like I said, before something like top-10% of plays the tank isn’t that mandatory there and it’s possible to get away with 1 tank or no tanks at all. And “tanks” themselves are designed differently in Rivals.

Huh? In OW there was a double-barrier meta everyone hated. Stacking defenses indefinitely is what needs to be avoided to make it playable and enjoyable.

Like I said - it’s the issue of designs. Rivals shows it’s not that big of a deal if it’s fun. And it currently has way more DPS characters, so it has all the potential to make it even better be adding more strategists/tanks - amping up the “fun to play” aspects.

So pretty much blizz just find some solution, even tho we don’t know any, or a solution would drastically change the game, and possibly not for the better. People won games in top500 as 5 dps sometimes too. It still wasn’t a good comp or common.

Well you want ppl to pick tanks more; or be needed less. To be picked more they needed to be stronger, which would further reinforce the tank stacking meta. Or be picked less by making them what? Worse? Buffing dps and support sustain and dmg reduction so tanks aren’t needed? Idk how we accomplish this, and just saying blizz figure it out doesn’t seem like a solution to me. Even small balance changes can have a big effect on the game.

I mean goats had aoe healing yes, but they were low values. It didn’t use a hero like moira, it was lucio and brig for aoe. And zen with his little single target. But you want tanks to be less mandatory, so how could we reduce the healing and barriers? And then if barriers are made worse, wouldn’t the tanks also be made worse leading to even less people playing them? Or we get fat dps like 5v5, which is something else people hate.

I was saying there was no double barrier meta without it being sigma and orisa. We didn’t have like a rein Winston meta, as they don’t do ranged dmg with their barriers up, rein does no dmg with it. We didn’t have orisa rein as they don’t function well together other than cheese pirate ship comps.

Yes it is. No one likes shieldwatch and healbots so

Except Shieldwatch has nothing to do with the format

You fix Shieldwatch with a regular patch

And the problem with formats, is that you can’t patch a missing variable in the match

That’s why 6v6 is more stable than any other variant

Evidently it took completely reworking two of the heroes. I don’t think that’s what one might consider a regular patch lol

As for now, your favorite character is at 312KB update from going back to 2016 xD

It really makes no difference what change you want to apply today
