Lasso: A replacement for Flashbang with new functionality

Since Overwatch 2 seems to be doing away with hit-stun mechanics, I have a suggestion for a functional replacement for McCree’s Flashbang which is also more fitting with his Cowboy motif.

Lasso
McCree pulls out a traditional rope lariat, winds it up with his arm and casts it forward. On contact, the rope binds the target, momentarily preventing them from using any abilities, and greatly reducing the accuracy of the target’s primary fire, because they have to shoot from the hip with their arms bound. In addition, the player can yank the roped target to the left, right, or straight backwards into McCree. Obviously, this has the utility of enabling McCree to set up the target for a FTH combo, redirect them into oncoming fire from team mates including Ultimate Abilities, or into environmental hazards.

Lasso has a brief delay before deployment when the key/button is pressed which corresponds to an on-screen animation of McCree winding up the rope. In addition, deployment can be further delayed by the player if the key/button remains depressed.

Thoughts?

Why not just make Flashbang a daze/concuss?

It’s easier to implement, requires less work, and adds a varying degree of complexity to how the hero fights.

McCrees rope imagery has gotten him in enough trouble thanks.

I’m honestly starting to think they’re going to give the flashbang a blindness like they proposed for the wrecking ball mines in the latest EXC. a very temporary blindness, as in Valorant.

I’m speculating because it’s not at all mentioning how they should replace the flashback but rather … readjust it?

So in the name of removing CC, we’re removing a .7 second stun in favor of a much longer CC that is actually almost as restrictive?

I don’t think it’ll be a blind, as they’ve gone on record saying that they don’t want vision impairing abilities (so no blinds or nearsight).

A daze/concuss works due to not fully impairing a player’s vision, but rather, hindering their offensive abilities.

It’s a cool idea, and I generally like it. Would need a lot of tinkering to make it balanced (cooldown time, range, time bound, penalty to aim, etc.). That said, given that hack is getting nerfed, seems like an unlikely route to development. Removing the ability denial function could make it workable, though the cc may still be a problem in OW2.

i think, since orisa is going to lose “Halt!”, it would be neat if Cole’s flashbang instead was given its properties on explosion. Kinda like a “lasso grenade”. Would fit his character imo.

IMHO you made the cure worse than the illness.

So instead of just having a stun you have to throw from close distance, Cass would now have a Hog hook (but be faster at getting to his target than Hog because of his roll), with a Sombra hack built in, so you could guarantee the FH kill, or drop people down the well/off a cliff/etc.

No thank you.

Looks like he’s getting a pipe bomb. I imagine it does a chunk of burst damage and maybe has some form of CC other than stun. Just a guess.

So you want to give him a discount hog hook with more utility?

Now I want a tank hero that rides some type of animal. Maybe even an omnic animal-like creature.

I’ve always wished that Iffy would ride on Orisa’s back. Yeah, she’s a kid, so they obviously don’t want her getting shot in the game, but they could always have her enclosed in some sort of protective dome on Orisa’s back or something.

Is that… Logic!?
Whoa there chief, you know that’s been outcast from the forums. Get outta here and think about what you’ve done!
