LAS1 server? High latency

Noticed my latency was spiking up to 100ms today and has been generally higher then is use too. Was investigating to see if the issue was my computer or my ISP. Checked what server I was connecting too, noticed it was LAS1 I can’t seem to find any information about on it, just LAX1 and ORD1. So what is this server? Is it new?

It’s in Los Angeles, just a different provider.

It’s a known issue that for some reason isn’t getting resolved, and has continued to degrade. The new servers were added sometime around the end of October and are causing all sorts of issues. I have a few posts about it in my profile.

These are just servers through another company, they are in the same locations. Additionally, there’s nothing to “fix” since it’s working as intended.

But…I’m looking at the connection graph on my Solarwinds NPM dashboard, and ICMP packets are either being randomly dropped or with hundreds of ms of latency once they route through AS 57976. I’d say it’s just an issue isolated to ICMP if the RTT on my netgraph didn’t spike up at precisely the same moment the Solarwinds’ ping results did.

Maybe it’s a BGP/peering-related issue, or maybe it’s an issue with whatever handles UDP traffic down the wire, but something odd is definitely going on that LAX and ORD datacenters are not currently experiencing.

Yep, a lot of those nodes are designed to ignore some or all ICMP requests.

I believe LAS is either the replacement for LAX or it might be a temporary server like the one they had on the East Coast last year.

Edit: If you run tests with PingPlotter Pro (trial works) you can set packet type to UDP, which usually gives a more clear picture of the route.

Edit 2: Will try to find out if it’s a permanent change.

Any update on this by chance? First time playing tonight in a few days. First time being connected to LAS1 and constant packet loss and rubber banding.

Haven’t seen any official announcements, but WoW servers on west coast are using LAS only, instead of the original LAX.

Hi, me and a friend are having the same issue. After the Le Sserafim update, we haven’t been able to play without our latency spiking up to 500 ping. It usually happens on ORD1 or LAS1. This is an actual issue and not isolated

I believe LAS1 and ORD1 are the only North American servers at this point. Start a new thread with your connection test to show where the issue is happening. Simply saying there is a problem does not give developers enough info to make any changes.

Why not, if multiple people are saying there is a problem? And the problem appears to the be same. No real issue with the previous LAX servers. Move to what sounds like a new provider, and now there are multiple reported issues.

Because less than 10 people saying “I have a connection problem” can easily mean that they are located in the same geographic area and use the same ISP or share a node on their route. That’s what the test is for—it provides specific information about where lag is happening.

Is there a way to manually change server to LAX?

You can only select specific servers in custom game modes. Quick Play and other modes that rely on the matchmaking system have never featured a server picker.
