Yesterday I decided to boot up my laptop, install the new update, and go through the new installation process for the game. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but after playing it for a small period, my cooling fan in my Laptop began to making loud noise unlike anything I’d heard before. I chalked it up to CPU usage being at an all time high for the game, so I decided to quit playing for the time being.
The unfortunate part is that this problem persisted even after I restarted my PC, made sure to make sure there were no differences in temperature and made sure to make sure that I have not caused any physical damage to my laptop.
The model is an Acer Aspire E 15, and I usually get a solid 60 frames in Overwatch and I still do, the issue comes now from my fan making this stuttering, loud noise that I cannot fix. I do not know if Overwatch is the culprit, but it seems oddly coincidental that for six months since the purchase of the laptop I have had zero issues with it until yesterday.
A lot of people have been having issues with their CPU overheating during the update, so it wouldn’t be a surprise in all honesty. As long as your fan is still keeping your CPU cool, there shouldn’t be much of a problem. After a while, my laptop started doing something similar. And it still functions properly.

It’s ridiculous, that new 13 GB update made my CPU go nuts:

And I got an 8 core 16 threads Ryzen CPU, there must be something seriously wrong with the Blizzard Updater.
Still, it got all cores occupied up to 97% and the temperature went up to 68°C even though I have a ridiculously large tower cooler.
PC brand new, literally no dust inside, amazing airflow.
Blizzard Updater Agent just nuts.
What the heck? My specs are horrible compared to yours and I didn’t have this issue… That’s super weird. I wonder if it has to do with Ryzen? That’s the one real difference I can think of. I’m using an i5 Quad.
So I’d like to explain what I went through tonight. Firstly, I tried to do a System restore because I thought that my fan settings were changed perhaps by some whim. I figured, okay, let’s try that and see if that alleviates the issue.
So after I was denied a System Restore twice, I was a tad worried as to why it wasn’t going through. Going online I saw that booting in Safe is a reliable way to start a System Restore, so I did. After doing so, my computer Blue Screened.
And this went on for approximately two to three hours, where I had to do an entirely fresh install of Windows 10 and purge every single file that I had on this laptop. So here I am with a fresh computer, but the fan is still making noise. Perhaps then, it’s physically faulty?
Well, that’s the only explanation at that point. If you restored everything… That’s all just really odd. Sounds like this update was just insanely unstable. I’m surprised that I made it out alive…
Doing some additional maintenance, seems to be a physical fault as I for the life of me can figure out what else could have caused an issue. Fan grinds like every 5-10 seconds with pauses in between those intervals and it causes the laptop to vibrate still.
Whatever the case, I suppose I’ll just deal with it. Ever since the fresh install the computer runs fine as it did previously, it’s just odd how it turned out.
No kidding… At least it’s running like normal now. Good luck.
I’m actually gonna send the laptop out to the repair center because the fan’s actually busted/not working how it’s supposed to be. Tried playing WoW yesterday and my processor got upwards to like, 95 celsius – big yikes!
I don’t know if OW is responsible for my fan’s faultiness just because it’s an odd coincidence there are issues AFTER the patch or it was just about that time that my laptop had a physical fault.
Whatever the case hopefully I’ll get some results in the upcoming weeks, oh well.
Oh no dude, a lot of people had issues with their CPU overheating after the patch. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it really was Overwatch…
