Lag during first games

Ever since I started playing the game again a month ago, I keep getting very bad lag spikes and frame rate drops during my 1st game after I launch the overwatch client but then it goes away and runs smoothly for every game after that until I close the game. Any idea what could cause this?

Assuming this is a system performance problem, I am going to guess that there are background processes on your computer that may be trying to run when you first boot up your computer. Programs like Discord, GeForce Experience, Steam launcher, Origins launcher, cloud storage clients like Microsoft OneDrive. All of these could be causing problems. Check for such programs or to see if there is something under the hood, try following this procedure:

I tried the steps in that article but unfortunately the problem still persists.

What sort of behavior is happening during the first game? Can you elaborate further?

The first game my screen repeatedly freezes and drops to 0 frames or it is very choppy with single digit frames per second. This problem typically happens every 5-10 seconds during my 1st game but then the problem usually disappears within 10 minutes of playing. It’s very odd.

Are you playing right after starting up your PC? Is it possible you have some sort of update or scan running when you first boot up?

I just realized yesterday that a new update for my graphics card driver was available. Installing the update seems to have fixed my problem. Thanks for the replies though, I appreciate it.
