Lack of attention detail to weapon variants and polish

Hi, first of all congratulations to blizzard employees for unionising ( if I understood correctly) apologies, I’ll probably go into a mini rant and my opinion might not be organised and presented well.

I doubt I’m not the only one that noticed the lack of polish on the weapon variants, and not even in a crazy way like recolouring everything so the weapons are cohesive in their looks but in terms of lack of attention to what details get transformed for instance. it almost feels like they used the bucket tool or even automated the whole process which made the galactic and jade weapons meh, and less desirable other than showing off to other player which I’m all fall. the problem was less noticeable on the gold weapons for a while.

posting a couple of example via imgur cause I don’t know how to do that directly on here . its more noticeable on some of the weapons like the more cozy weapon, where there is gradients to make the cookie look 'natural" where the process that they are using doesn’t address ( which is apparent on the 3 colours) there is a small circular around the chocolate chips. ) the second example there is a light next to the barrel that doesn’t light up in gold, jade, but in the new galactic is not present. the last example is the hanzo bow, the yellow material where hanzo holds the bow disappears in the variants. ( theres too many examples to be honest)

honestly the gun makes the cozy skin my top 3 mcree skins, followed by the spike skin ( interesting weapon and the sound that plays when you kills someone is just pure endorphins) the third being the third is the one with he demon hand

I do believe this is an aesthetic problem because, it diminishes the value of the variants just slightly ( when using a weapon you’d hope it doesnt take away from the weapons appeal), the other point is that overwatch is a more or less a polished live games in terms of minimal bugs, and that things work. I just hope they invest the manpower to make all the facets

that being said, I can’t imagine the team just being idle, I do know they have so many collabs, battle pass skins and shop ones that they have to work on months a head back to back

I dont really visit social . due to my social anxiety. ( I simultaneously over invest due, to my fight or flight response) so apologies incase I over do it. ) I do hope that iridescent or a similar weapon variant becomes a thing

apparently I cant include links in my post. you’ve seen enough of those, but atleast check out the cozy skin, and the hanzo weapons, the accents that gets switched to added to the weapon cloud variant, which removes details from the weapon ( even though in theory, its sounds like a good idea but only if more attention went into implementing those)

They have always been lazy with giving out Weapon Variants, even back in OW1 with just the gold variant. It is as you say, they just use the bucket tool and call it a day.

I understand that there are 40+ characters with multiple weapons and that it’s nonsensical to ask for them to make unique skins every time, but at the very least they could re-analyze the current “templates” that they apply the colors to and re-align them. It’s been almost a decade since those initial templates were created for some characters and it wouldn’t hurt to freshen them up.

unfortunately its worse now, increased production of skins to try to keep up with marvel ravels, 2 weeks a skin release. and more complex textures, using the bucket tools without any touch ups atleast, or some for of insight first means we lose actual details and elements of the weapon or makes the weapon less appealing.

I dont necessarily think its that teams problem but the amount of time they’ve been given / amount of work. ( or another reason, that only an internal team would understand) it saddens me
