Kudos to this guy

for actually being able to take a step back from all the noise and acknowledge what has happened throughout the year. not perfect by a long shot, but there were many steps made this year

Looking back at 2024, I think the devs delivered pretty good on most of what they promised. All the map reworks were generally well received, Runasapi & the Colosseo fixes have made Push a pretty good mode, we got 3 of the best designed heroes in a while with Venture, Juno & Hazard, everyone pretty much loved the new Junkenstein mode, cosmetics were great as usual, we got a bunch of awesome collabs, raised $12.3 million for the Breast Cancer research, love it or hate it those S9 changes did revitalize the game at least for a while, Champion rank & competitive overhaul were good changes, OWCS survived a low investment experimental 1st season, & the 6v6ers even got some of what they wanted. Also lets be real, a game like Overwatch will never be as balanced as people cry for & tbh i dont think it needs to be (just look at Rivals) the only big miss for me was Clash mode, I really think that Mode needed more time in the oven. Also tanks with unfun sustain abilities need more work, but overall I really believe 2024 was a solid year for Overwatch that provided some stability to the game as well as needed direction after the chaos of previous years, on top of being freed from the greedy paws of Bobby. I honestly see 2024 as a huge W for Overwatch.

I’m hopeful they have been cooking a lot of good stuff on the low that they will reveal soon for 2025 & beyond. From what I can tell Team 4 is still full of very talented people that really love the product they work on, & honestly i still have a lot of faith in them. I have no idea what they might have up their sleeves, but I’m very eager to find out.

Hold up, let them cook

I agree with them for the most part. Especially that clash was a miss.

Personally I think 2023 was a lot stronger of a year than 2024 for ow2. 2024 was a massive downhill slope that we are still feeling to this day

Hero wise both years were pretty mixed. Hilariously it followed the same hero release theme both years First hero of the year was quickly forgotten about venture, lw. Second hero of the year comes out strong then nerfed to rarely be seen again, juno, illari. 3rd hero of the year is a broken tank release and ruins everyones xmas mauga hazard.

Map wise 2023 takes the win hands down. Antarctica is divisive, new junk city and suravasa are meh. Samoa is good. 2024, runasapi was good but then clash ruined last year for maps by releasing 2 nice looking maps but on a garbage game mode no one likes. So 2023 wins maps by default.

Mode wise, flashpoint > clash. Event modes took a massive backseat in 2024. 2023 we were getting a new mode every season. Starwatch, prophunt etc. 2024 seasons barely had anything new. Only junkensteins lab really stands out.

Hero balance took a real nose dive at the very start of 2024 and weve not really recovered from it still. 2023 wasnt much better so no one wins lol.

Cosmetics took a massive plummet in 2024 with it having some of the worst mythics to date with widow and ashe having some absolutely offensive skins. as well as some of the most boring themes in gundam, egyptian (which couldve been cool but they did it half-baked) and witches which just ended up bland and repetitive.

Only big step up 2024 took was collabs. But le serrafim is still the best one theyve done which came out 2023

2024 was not an improvement and in many ways was a backwards step compared to 2023 in many areas. Put all the season roadmaps side by side and you can see the mass scaling back they did in 2024. 2023 season roadmap posters were filled with like 8-10 different things coming that season. Now they barely find 4 good things to say about the new seasons.

Reads like an undercover blizz dev trying to astroturf positivity for S9 changes. Thats right, they say all that just to sneak in some praise for the worst patch of all time.

Tbh, this sounds like self-patting to me.

Yeah, OW did not go extinct in 2024, and it slightly improved compared to release OW2. But that’s exactly the problem.
Being slightly better than 2022 OW2 is not an achievement, for how bad the game was.

Also, we did not see any metrics that prove the success of team 4 in 2024.
The steam metrics are not looking good.
The twitch metrics are not looking good either.
Those are the only 2 stats we have.

Team 4 tried to polish the same fundamentally broken product. It’s like trying to polish a turd. A polished turd is still a turd.

If overwatch can keep making each subsequent year better from now on we could we really be going places.

It depends on if 2025 is better or worse. 2020-2022 was basically just dead, 2023 was pretty bad, 2024 was… Okayish.

I rate those much much much higher than tracer and orisa. Nevermind compared to mythics, compared to some of their legendaries or epics they were pretty meh. Comic book tracer clears the tracer mythic lol

2023 had bad hero releases, not to mention the travesty of the pve announcement. It was just overall very rocky.

2024 was mostly smooth just not super exciting at times. But if the worst I can say about it is that it’s boring and not actively detrimental like before then it’s an improvement

This may be shocking, some people like s9. Isn’t it crazy?

Orisa and hanzo are definitely bottom tier. Literally just legendary skins with no customisation.

All the ā€˜level up’ skins are literally only 1 tier better than the bottom. Reaper, widow, tracer. You now get the illusion of having customisation but you still dont actually get customisation because tier 4 is the only correct pick due to it having all the effects.

They have sort of fixed this issue with reins new one which is again only slightly better than those others. Notice how the effects are now put into their own section on the customisation screen and not tied solely to the tier 4 armor like is the case with widow tracer and reaper. You can actually choose different armors and helmets and still get the visual effects which was the problem with the other ones

They are all by far bottom tier mythics due to completely lacking any customisation choice.

Ashe’s just looks ugly with her weird cheek holes. She has way better legendary skins than that ugly mythic. And it came out in by far the worst season ever. Bug heroes

The top mythics still to this day are some of the original ones. Sig, kiri, genji. Plus mercy and moira were godly. Then it went downhill

Its not shocking at all, but it is crazy. Absolutely crazy.

Widow and rein I didn’t even max out. I like the lower tier versions more tbh lol. Widows is kinda basic and you miss out on the sparkles but the effects are cool and the skirt and tights are… Good.

Ashe I just like the dynamite and gun effects and the skin itself isn’t her best but it’s alright.

Tracers I particularly hate because if I want the effects I need to use the helmet which I’m not a fan of or otherwise look like a peasant

Orisa mythic is just so fricking loud.

I’m also not the biggest fan of the ones you mentioned I just don’t actively hate them

Widow and rein i didnt even buy any level cus those skins make me ill to look at. I dont want to see rein with thigh high boots thanks. Im good.

Got optimus primehardt to use instead which imo is way better

All I see is a lot of copium.
The player count peaked at Juno’s release and that was it.

It’s weird because I believe I have a higher opinion of the developers and what they have accomplished than most, but I do not particularly care about this game anymore. Weird that people who have such low opinions on them and the state of the game are avidly defending the game after Mahvel dropped. I do not understand, but I doubt there is a logical reason. It’s probably some psychological effect that I am too scared to type because it will hurt feelings.

When reddit makes your community seem unreasonable, it’s time for self-reflection. Though, if the forums were capable of self-reflection, we wouldn’t see 90% of the negativity posted here.

shillers will shill, big w, cooking, jesus i cant take seriously a person who talks like that, in 2024 we got basic content, even less than in 2023, nothing special, the best thing we got was 6vs6, from overwatch 1, lol

Meh it’s exactly what you would expect from reddit overwatch, a mix of toxic positivity, stockholm syndrome and copium

you have comments like ā€œeasily the best year of overwatchā€ and people upvoting this unironically… it’s kinda sad, meanwhile game is falling apart, even gameplay got a lot worse after s9

I find it slightly hilarious that to find a positive post about OW2 is like finding a needle in a haystack.

It’s even funnier that you felt then need to make a thread about some random guy making a compliment about the game acting like you found something extremely rare and fascinating

Making a compliment? No….because he mentions several things they don’t like….just being able to assess something without bathing themselves in blind hatred and negativity bias….

It’s a rarity amongst many…these forums in particular

Same.

Aside from the way they handled Roadhog I’d attribute your general indifference to be caused a combination of things. The new shiny of MR as well as OW2 slipping into a state of relative normalcy.

Aside from the 6v6 tests (which I want to note seems to have flown relatively under the radar in coverage on here to my surprise.) OW2 hasn’t been doing much to shake things up with their seasonal patches. At least not on a roster wide level.

People are not hive minds, but the one explanation I’d toss forward is likely due to them bouncing off of Rivals. So many people bought into it’s hype that they were 100% ready to switch. But Rivals didn’t land for them, so now they have to find a way to reconcile with OW2.

It’s definitely better than just being kindling like everyone else here and dunking on the game instead of spending your time elsewhere doing something you’d actually enjoy.

Optimistic redditor , but his opinion wont make game fun for people who love owc dynamics
