microtransactions need to come from somewhere, and names instead of P2W is fine, and it still beats RNGesus boxes

Agreed. Blizzard is the only company I know that forces money to change names. Well, that and Xbox, but no one really plays that anymore.

Really doesn’t make sense. You can change your name whenever you want on the Xbox version.

I’m glad they don’t allow it for free. I lost touch with a lot of friends in steam because I couldn’t tell who was who after a few weeks because they would change it a few times a day.

Oh what? They changed that? I haven’t played Xbox since the 360 days, so my knowledge is a bit rusty.

In that case, Blizzard is the only company that does this then.

Ubisoft lets you change names (After, like, a month or so. Same with Runescape.) Digital Extremes lets you change names (I think, might have to send a ticket)
Steam lets you change names on the fly…

Its honestly a bit sad that a name change is a microtransaction.

When did that become free? I reserved/stole my own gamertag from myself on an alt account, and was annoyed to find out name changes cost money.

Besides, as far as microtransactions go, name changes are pretty good. 10 dollars isn’t ridiculously expensive. Not the cheapest either, but not that bad

It’s pretty standard for MMOs.

It used to be free on PC but they changed it sometime in 2016 or 2017

there was always one free change, which is acceptable

i don’t remember being able to change it whenever you wanted during this time, but if it was a thing, i’m sure it was just a grace period for the game’s release if people bought the game and didn’t like the name for overwatch itself, but still had a blizzard account

having a grace period like that would also be acceptable, and i wouldn’t say they “changed it” if it were something like this

Does Leauge also cost money to change your name? Aside from that it might be because you’re not just changing your OW name, you’re changing your whole battletag, I could be wrong though

Well league is a free game so it is more fair on top of that you can earn a name change in league with blue essence which you can earn without paying

Yeah it should be like $1 per change. Also, just ask them on their Realm transfers from servers on World of Wacraft where they nearly charged 30 bucks to move ONE character. Most of us just LEFT the game and did NOT go back instead of XFER to new realms. Then they wonder why NOBODY stuck around on the “empty” servers. :frowning:

Games with free name changes are quite often the unfair ones.
