If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, please don’t even reply.
EDIT: Not calling for immediate bans. Not calling for censorship. Not in league with snowflakes or SJWs. Not calling for safe space. Not saying this post will solve everything. Have fun attacking me anyway.
This topic may get lost in the hubbub of these forums, but I need to say this.
I play this game because it is a GAME - I play it to HAVE FUN. I suffer from a mental illness (prepared to be trolled for even saying this, but it’s true) that is devastating on the daily and to my life. I can often handle the toxicity on Overwatch. I don’t care if you call me names. I don’t care if you say the game was easy. I don’t care if you flame me for playing a certain hero.
But the “Kill yourself,” “Kill yourselves,” “Go kill youself” needs to stop. Now.
I know Blizzard cannot police every Report - I am incredibly grateful at the high amount of “Thank You For Reporting” notifications I get on the daily anyway. However, this is the top priority, in my opinion, that needs addressing.
Please stop telling people to kill themselves. Stop it. You have no idea who is on the other side of the screen, nor what they are going through. Never, ever, EVER say it. To me, or anyone. No matter the circumstance.
I know OW is full of toxic people. Any game is. But this…needs to stop. Now.strong text

You are right but games also are full of immature stupid kids that dont realise weight of their words. That being said I think all “kys” should be silenced maybe filtered like gg ez?

Yes. The “KYS” and the full word-age. It doesn’t matter if immature kids are on the game.

This again.
You see, there’s a reason we have a profanity filter; it’s allowed, but only in certain aspects. If someone uses profanity to negatively affect the feelings of another player, it’s punishable. Which is why it’s not automatic and shouldn’t be.

“This again.”
Yeah, that proves my point right there.

I was referring to the “immediete ban pls” posts. If it was necessary, it’d already be in the game.
This is necessary, unlike the other things people ask for bans for. Like…playing Brigitte.

Like anyone is going to kill themself because of those pretty 3 words

And honestly, that’s laughable considering this game has been out for only 2 years and what is necessary in the game is NOT already in the game.
I agree with OP. If they can’t ban people then they should at least expand the GGEZ filter to “KYS” and its derivatives.

That’s where you are completely wrong.

You never know… Why even risk it…

Well, clearly it isn’t. As I said before, there’s a profanity filter for a reason; people have the option to hide it.
If this post would say “Add ‘kill yourself’ to the profanity filter” (which I thought already was added) I’d be all for it. You’re asking for the wrong thing.
Ok so I agree that players telling other players to commit suicide in the real world should be met with harsh punishment but there is one horrible flaw in attempting to do any sweeping bans or automatic/immediate bans.
Killing yourself in Overwatch is a legitimate tactic to reduce how much ultimate charge the enemy team get from killing you if you respawn in an undesirable spawn location and it allows you to reset with your team.
It’s conceivable that someone might say ‘zen kill yourself we need to group’.
It would be unfair for the player to receive any ban for sharing tactics.

There’s not really anything that can be realistically done to combat that. Even if there were word filtration of KYS and such, it’d just be worked around.
Toxic people will be toxic people, and you can’t really just inject the levels of personal growth, consideration, etc, required in order to change that via some in game system.
I can understand not wanting to accept it, and how it can impact people. The sad reality is… It’s just very much par for the course when it comes to online gaming.
Yeah people just smash that report button immediatly whenever someone says a single word out of anger, also if they’re premade that’s more reports for the person… people get their feelings hurt so easily… Not saying that telling people to kill themselves is okay i’m obviously against it… but in general… people just smash the report always… I mostly only report throwers and someone being too much abusive in chat.
I’ll always take a toxic person trying to win a game over a thrower… you get punished for abusive chat more than the people that throw games

Exactly. Thank you. And of course people will say “Oh well then you shouldn’t be playing Overwatch”
Also, if I ever hear my kid say this in-game or in real life, they’re getting a lot of privileges taken away indefinitely. Such as access to technology.
The ban should be the least of their worry
