For the passed few days I’ve been hearing non stop about this #reworkMercy and I’m really getting tired of it. Imo, Mercy is simply suffering from the stupid Tank meta, just like most of the DPS heroes. That’s why her pick rate started going down ever since people started that very early version of GOATS when Moira was out. Asking for a Mercy rework is basically asking for her to fit in the Goats meta, which is currently a long term issue Overwatch is going to have if nothing is done. Instead, people should start whining about tanks’ damage and ask for some of their abilities to change or go away because, otherwise this game will become a Diving snowball hell like League of Legends instead of being a hero shooter.
So I don’t think they should change OR add any other heroes before GOATS is gone.
A Hero like Zarya shouldn’t have this ridiculous bonus damage that turns her into a DPS. She could maybe get way more energy form her barriers but instead of increasing her damage, her passive would increase the barriers’ duration (for example she currently has barriers that last for 2 seconds with 200 hp, with the change, those could last for 6 sec instead of 2 sec)
Reinhardt also deals a lot of damage but I also know he isn’t much a of threat at the same time. Still, I think he needs some changes as well. I think Rocket hammer can keep the damage but could be slightly slower and knock back enemies out of his own range. However it shouldn’t knock back through barriers, just like Brig’s current shield bash.
Using firestrike when using barrier field should be possible and finally his barrier could also recover faster(250 hp/ sec instead of 200 hp/sec).
That way he won’t be a main source of damage but still has a killing potential, can also use his shield more often.
I think other Tanks are fine, except Hog who should just be readjusted to the DPS role imo.

Wolfe comp (sym, bastion, orisa, 1 healer) eats goats.
So you want Zarya to have the slowest charging ultimate in existence and reduce Reinhardt to a barrier bot?
I do agree that GOATS is annoying but at the same time it isn’t effective on every single map and it rarely is properly executed on ladder…
Maybe in lower ranks. But that entire comp you are suggesting gets absolutely demolished by team play. Goats has all the resources necessarily to win versus that comp (dva).
They can adjust Zarya’s Ult charge easily. The idea is to make her into an actual tank. And no it doesn’t turn rein completely into a barrier bot, he would just be less agressive.

It’s a skill issue. Theres just not a good sym base.
It’s not the tanks that allow GOATs to be so powerful, it’s the supports. This is coming from a Lucio player by the way. Lucio, with speed boost, allows to tanks to overcome their biggest weakness: their range. Brigitte and Lucio both have passive healing, and Zenyatta’s discord allows for massive damage towards a specific target. Two support ultimates that are able to charge incredibly quickly when you can always be healing someone allow for ridiculous sustain.
Anyone who thinks GOATS is unbeatable or too powerful needs to drop what they’re doing and head back to the training grounds for some aim check.
All the strategies to beat goats seem to rely on surprise factor. It’s like 4dps mercy orissa. It’s an extremely exploitable comp that only works against GOATS. Sure you force them off GOATS (which is a rare sight) but you’re guaranteed a loss on next team fight.
With 4dps all you need is a barrier and a widow. A standard 2-2-2 comp destroys them which is why 4dps was never a thing before. Yes you’ll win first fight but you won’t even have ults before they come in with a comp you can’t answer.
With Wolfs a sombra can ruin the entire comp. Additionally DOATS will have a good shot at beating it. The stream I watched they suffer because they’re not ready for it and it lets them get ult up. With a DVA to eat Bastion and no sym wall I think a well organized team can beat it without swapping off DOATS. Wolfs also doesn’t do nearly as well on offence for obvious reasons.
But we’ll have to see if either are sustainable strategies at pro level play. So far it seems they’re strategies that have won in a small handful of games because they were executed well but more importantly because the enemy had no experience fighting them. I’m sure the original GOATS lost to pharmacy a lot. But an adapatation to deal with them was learned and it stopped being a reliable counter. I haven’t seen anything yet that makes me think “this is a comp that can kill goats variations and not be instantly overrun by a normal comp”. So at best we’re approaching total Rock Paper Scissors counters with goats-counter, goats, 2-2-2. Which is I guess better than no goats counter but not by much.
Even if the enemy wasn’t running goats that 3 stack would still easily shred through them.
Why?
Because they actually know how to play those heroes.

Yeah and that one guy still gets T500 (and beats other T500) playing Reaper. I don’t really care if the best Sym Torb and Bastion in the world can win some games together. That’s not exactly unknown. Theyre at those SRs because they beat other top level people that play much more “viable” heroes.
What I do care about is how likely this is to be a viable counter start at pro level amongst coordinated teams that have trained with this possibility in mind. I’ll believe it when I see it work consistently. Until then it was a pub stomp set of games that no one had experience vs.
