I recently got a new laptop that runs Overwatch much better (i5-8250U, GeForce 940MX) than my previous one (integrated graphics). It’s able to hold 60 FPS on medium settings, while my old one had trouble with 30 FPS on low settings.
Unfortunately, I’m running into input lag issues in Quickplay and other 6v6 modes with it. When I press the keys to move or use an ability, there’s sometimes a short (0.5 to 1 seconds), but very noticeable delay in the response. It can be very distracting and makes things like strafing and aiming in a chaotic team fight very difficult. There doesn’t seem to a delay in my mouse for aiming.
I don’t believe this is a performance issue, since I never ran into this issue with my old laptop. In addition, this problem only occurs in Quickplay or other 6v6 modes; I haven’t come across this issue in FFA matches (even in custom 12 player matches). My next thought was latency or interpolation delay, but the performance stats on the screen are not noticeably higher when I’m in Quickplay (both numbers are usually around 20 ms). Maybe a few ms higher, but not enough to explain the input lag I’m experiencing.
I’ve gone through quite a few solutions to fix this, but none have worked yet. I’ve set the game to full screen, turned off V-sync and the other buffering settings, and even tried setting Overwatch as a high-priority program in the register. None of these solutions changed anything, which is why I’m fairly certain this isn’t a performance issue.
If anyone else has experienced this and knows a solution, please let me know. It’s really detrimental to my Quickplay experience, and for the sake of my team and my SR, I don’t think I’ll be playing Competitive if this problem persists.
