Howdy, I’ve used the ,./ keys as my gaming homerow since Quake dropped in 1996 with them being strafe left, right, and move back. I have been using these keybinds in Overwatch as well, however after reinstalling the game today it says that the slash key “/” cannot be bound to the “back” action (forward, back, left, right). However, I have had it bound to that action for years in Overwatch now.
What’s going on?
This is still not working for me, either. I’m left handed so rebind everything from WASD to IJKL, and then I use all the keys around that. I’ve been using forward slash “/” for “need healing” for years, and after a patch earlier this year or late last year, the game says I can no longer bind the key to anything.
Normally it would not be a huge deal, but pressing / forcefully opens the console, so I’ll be playing the game, accidentally hit slash, and then have to stop what I’m doing and press escape to clear it. I end up standing there for a couple seconds doing nothing when this happens. Please fix this. I’d rather completely unbind forward slash than have it only open a console that I can reach by pressing like any other social or chat key.

It’s wild that in the year 2024 universal keybinding still befuddles game devs. The number of keys that are unbindable should be close to zero and gamers should be able to input whatever crazy keybind scheme they desire.
Go ahead and reserve ESCAPE for the menu, but everything else should be fair game to rebind.
You said it yourself, “/” opens the console. It’s also used to issue console commands. If remapping that key was working before and now isn’t allowed, this could be an anti-hacking prevention.
