i took a long break from overwatch and when i started playing it again everything worked perfectly. like 2-3 weeks ago i was able to play overwatch fine, averaging around 30-50 ping per game. then i joined a game one day and started playing and noticed i had 200 ping. i thought at first that maybe something was wrong with my wifi and that itll fix itself, but it continued every day and pretty much every match. in 99% of my games on overwatch, whether its vs ai or comp or anything in between, i get 100-250 ping the entire match. ive tried just about everything i can regarding my pc and my internet, but i realized those arent the problem, because its only overwatch that is giving me such high ping, all my other apps and games work perfectly fine. ive read alot of posts that people are going through the same thing, except im in north america and whenever i open the network graph it says im in a different region pretty much everytime. i should be in the north american region, but ive gotten sent to literally every region available and no matter what i do, i have 200+ ping every game. i was going to start getting back into overwatch, and now i cant since playing with 200+ ping is pretty much impossible. is there something i can do to fix this, or do i just have to wait until blizzard finally does something to fix it? they’re losing alot of players over this. please fix it soon or atleast tell me how i can fix it, ive been trying to deal with the 200+ ping but its unbearable
What region are you in and which region are you connecting to? How are you verifying the region you’re connecting to?
im in north america/us central, ord1. it connects me to france (cgd1), brazil (gbr1), finland (gen1), us west (lax1), and australia (syd1). i check to see which region im in by using the network graph. i think thats what youre asking, right? i also tried to change regions in the battle.net launcher and it still did the same thing
I had the same issue.
The “global server” thingy was implemented when crossplay was enabled. Therefore it doesn’t matter which region you choose in the launcher, the game autopicks servers for you. Sometimes it goes haywire and you end up on random servers. I hate it.
I have resorted to using a vpn and it works perfectly. It’s stupid that I should have to pay for a 3rd party plan just to make the game playable but it is what it is.
Also if I don’t use a VPN it just auto sends me to the middle eastern servers most of the time which is probably the worst experience out of any game I have ever played.
PS. 180ms is the best ping I can get due to where I live and it’s perfectly playable once you get used to it.
This sounds like your ISP routing table is quite messed up. I’m in Florida and I’ve never landed on an EU server while playing, but I’m also hyper vigilant about checking my connection and routing because Spectrum is not good.
Have you tried a WinMTR or PingPlotter when landing on these other servers?
my isp has been perfectly fine until like 2 monthhs ago and i tried pingplotter but didnt understand it
Hey there SmokePaw,
We have instructions on how to use Pingplotter here:
Feel free to reply with the link to your Pingplotter results to the different server IPs that you’re getting connected to. I recommend running the test to US Central (ord1) first and we can compare that to the other servers you’re getting placed on.
