Kbm support on consoles

So i have a very close friend to me who has an xbox one and plays with me regularly on overwatch. However because they have a weak grip they prefer keyboard and mouse as it solves alot of issues they have from wrist to grip issues. As you all are probably aware there are many more people who may simply prefer keyboard and mouse. However since we play on console we are unable to use it and therefore playing is less appealing when there are other games we enjoy with keyboard and mouse support. It sucks that we cant play overwatch as often because we both love the game and like many others we want to play it more. I beg you all from the bottom of my and all of the people who may need or prefer keyboard and mouse to add true keyboard and mouse support to consoles. Make it so when you use kbm on console it puts you into pc lobbies more often to make it more fair. Just please PLEASE add keyboard and mouse support to the console versions of this game.

I’m surprised they don’t. Also they should add aim assist to PC players who use controllers and throw them into the console pool. Make it controller and kbm pools.

You mean always? Then I don’t think anyone will have any complaints. “More often” is not an option. Also prohibit switching in the middle of the game

Same about switching

There is a series of reasons this approach may not work. Clearly, enabling KBM support, disabling autoaim and putting people in the PC pool is pretty easy and should be on the table for a feasability study, but the second part is much harder.

First is that PC’s can have multiple input devices, and it is probably not worth the development time to create the detection and enforcement mechanisms to prevent the many different ways this can be exploited.

Second, there are very easy ways to really foul this up, such as screen mirroring or screen sharing through programs such as Splashtop to connect to a PC that is hooked to a controller from a 2nd PC with KBM, screwing up native console players’ experiences.

At the end of it all, I just don’t think they would find the cost and risk of implementation to justify the very limited benefit of adding console emulation mode to PC’s, although it’s not up to me.

Not actually. Game may just ignore any k&m hero input if match was started by controller

It sounds a lot easier than it actually is, and in this business, there needs to be a justification for embarking on a road this fraught with risk for almost zero payoff.

I am favorable in theory to the idea, but if I were calling the shots, this would never even make it past the first cut.

I don’t see any difficulty. I haven’t checked, but most likely they use either something like SDL or directly xinput and sony/nintendo sdk. Nobody will support controllers via hid directly in such projects
But it will require some reworking of architecture nearly for sure. And with these devs, there is almost a 100% chance of new bugs. So yeeah

I think we may be crossing wires on this. I am totally in favor of, and don’t think that adding direct KBM support for consoles while disabling autoaim and putting them into PC pools is too risky or technical.

I do think however, that the other way around, adding aim assist and putting PC controller users in the console pool is the complicated part and probably not worth the cost and risk.

Paladins has had keyboard and mouse support for ages on console. Don’t why team 4 are dragging their feet on this.

That makes sense, support mouse & keyboard on console then send them to PC pool & ban any device that enables mouse without being detected, mousetraps for console pool, real people investigating reports/matches more actively

Eh?

This would screw over the PC gyro players.

Yes, we exist.

We’re only able to play because the game allows simultaneous controller/m+kb support.

Gyro instead of mouse? Never heard of anyone using gyro and keyboard

Steam input makes gyro the mouse. We play with a controller as normal and whenever we tilt the controller the game reads it as a mouse.

Locking a control scheme out(like halo MCC pc) would make it impossible for us to play.

This is a better video. We need games that allow multiple inputs at the same time

There are a few issues with this:

  1. Most, if not all lobbies are already “Mixed” queue.

  2. The game client is the thing that stops the mnk from being recognized as an input. Which is stupid.

  3. The people that want to cheat using XIM or CRONUS devices (not you guys, but gotta say it anyway) will still use XIM and/or CRONUS devices.

Otherwise, as long as they disabled aim assist on the KnM, and made it hard to switch between the two, I’d be fine with it. But it would also mean that they’d have to program something similar in for PC players with Controller. And I see that being more hellish than it’s worth…

AND controller in actual kbam pool. console playing against pc would be epic. AFTER / WHENEVER devs actually add legitimate aim assist. rather than the mythical illusion of aim assist.

Stupid because…?
Doing it on the server when you can do it on the client is stupid

As far as I know, this is not supported anywhere in the console version of the game, so you shouldn’t be in console pool at all
And yes, my other idea was to choose from controller before queue, which pool, PC or console. This will solve the issue

No, because it’s an unfair advantage in console lobbies and no PC player wants to deal with console players on their team.

Console have more limits than JUST your inputs, you know. It wouldn’t ever be fair to anyone to add KBM. Gotta get a PC, my dude

On console Paladins you can use keyboard and mouse, you can just select the keyboard only option in settings if you don’t want to go against controller users and vice versa if you only want to go against controller users if your on controller. Don’t know why team 4 hasn’t enabled mnk support yet.
