The buyout was in October, Activision didn’t change leadership until early January, the PvE team was laid off by Microsoft in late January.
So it literally took as little as 30 days and no more than 4 months to make the decision to throw away at least 6 years (likely close to 1000 man-years) worth of work. Imagine what state of disarray this game has to be in internally that it was that easy to make such a decision
Better to focus on what the game can compete with, rather than what it can’t.
If u believe that i have some swamp land in Florida for sale.
PvE was just teased to make the OW2 thing stick, then they planned “not as much pve as we want” then “no PvE”. Bobby was already on his way out with a big payday so im sure he had no problem taking the blame but a year from now when its still the same company people going to realize its just a scam
Considering that Microsoft wasn’t the only company to make layoffs earlier this year, I’d say you should be reading a lot of finance articles about what’s happening across the entire videogaming landscape rather than staying huddled in the shell of " Don’t touch my overwatch."
and if you then read the article by Jason Schreier which is so much discussed, it talks about a policy of distribution of earnings that was already in force since the time of Allen Brack, strongly desired by Mr Kotick, as well as the reason why the developers were not paying neither in August 2023 nor now, March 2024.
again by Jason Schreier, the vision of the PVE was wanted above all by Jeff Kaplan. the project changed with the arrival of Keller (more interested in PVP) and presumably Ybarra (blatantly complicit with Kotick in the interest of increasing the share value of Activison blizzard).
If anything, it’s not so much that Microsoft is to blame for what it bought… but Blizzard marketing which completely damaged the interest in the franchise and the previous months. because however we want to look at it, just 3 missions with a coming soon with no date is the worst marketing you can do.

I saw ex-pve devs who were laid off saying that the layoffs were the cause.
BIG DOUBT THERE. Apparently pve was close to finished so yeah, they just did terrible work for the past half decade. No wonder they lost their jobs. No sympathy for them anymore.

Pve was cancelled way before the microsoft buyout.
Do you think Microsoft can give us back Archives?
Well yes, it’s quite normal practice in any industry that after ownership changes, they discontinue projects that don’t produce any results.
I know right? And they’ve undone hero unlocks too. This is the first time since before OW2 launched that I’m actually eager to see what’s coming other than the game’s death.
if you are always this distrustful of simple things then you must be very irritated most of the time
to assume they literally sat down and did nothing for all that time just to feed your weird fantasy is silly
most of what they worked on was more then likely the first set of scrapped pve content (plus the new engine)
they have made alot of mistakes, missteps and other things i cant say on here due to censorship
but one thing ill never say they did was outright lie bout the intention to make pve content.
they may of lied or stretched the truth after they decided to CANCEL it back in 2022 but thats not the same (im ok with this, because they had to find away to let us down easy without crushing the entire launch)
let the conspiracies go, not everything is some grand scheme.
Not really. Its been told that new Story modes will be released within 18 months of each other. Now they’ve cancelled it all.
Monetized archive missions were hardly the pve we were promised.
What exactly does this game compete with?
every other f2p battlepass cash store gaas trashfire there is.
Just wait until OW is reevaluated in January 2025 and they decide to permanently shut it down or at the very least it’ll stop getting new content and go into maintenance mode only.
Hope y’all are happy for demanding that skins be sold and that PvE be thrown away.

I don’t remember anyone in the playerbase asking for that stuff
During the content drought before OW2 people were convinced we needed item shop and battle passes to get ‘new content’. It’s called mental conditioning, they don’t need that money to provide content.
I see people here constantly bagging on PvE thinking it was a waste of time when really it was never given any real chance anyways because the devs and the greedmongering foolish execs didn’t actually let them work on the game.
Who’s that insider on X that spoke to actual Blizzard employees that told him Overwatch 2 is making far too little revenue for investment and that player retention was also very low? Anyone know if they’re legit?
