Just Mute Us All - Not Allow Trolls To Weaponise Reporting

So unfortunately I always call out antisocial, throwing behaviour and I ask the person to group, wait, help our tank. To stop and fight as a team. I keep it neutral.

I very rarely ask for a swap.

But no matter how many examples there of a Moira self-deleting 1vs5 as the rest of her team emerge from spawn, and the myriad other troll moves you get from low gold (and probably higher) downwards, you Blizzard are like these edgy 10 year olds and do not care.

Trolls waste our most precious commodity, our time.

We only have so much and some of us want to climb, they know this but are determined to abuse our time creating a crappy in-game experience.

Hurting trolls’ feelings for being asked to stop being trolls - for being asked to stop ruining the game that some at Blizzard have worked hard on - this is the biggest sin for Blizzard though.

How can I tell? Because since April when I returned to playing competitive regularly I’ve had 1 - ONE! - pop-up telling me that my report was heeded.

And me? Well I got silenced for two weeks and now I’ve been suspended for two weeks.

I’m a very helpful, team-minded person - even as a Junkrat I’ll often get endorsements (but usually I’m in the thankless tank role or healing (supports are healers)).

Can you tell me why, even during a win, where I can get 3 endorsements, why I might get a report for inappropriate communication Blizzard?

Because if you didn’t realise by now, there are kids out there who hate any communication at all and call it annoying

You’ve scared most of the playerbase out of speaking or typing at all and even those brave souls that do talk seem to have made their mics barely audible.

It’s not really fine that you’ve sacked most of your customer service people, but fine, just don’t then outsource free labour to f2p bullies - who if they do respond to requests to stop trolling it’s with actual abusive chat or just a casual ā€˜idc’.

Why do they even have chat channels open? Oh yes, it’s to troll fully and hopefully ban a few accounts along the way, whilst they will just create a new account or buy one off the black market.

Actual fans who care about this game, spend too much money on this game are being penalised and turned away.

Now I could make more parallels between trolls whose idea of fun is to enjoy ruining other peoples’ fun and the devs, but I still genuinely assume the dev’s decency and that this situation is accidental. Due to the large company problem that renders them slow and unresponsive.

I’m asking please, you have to fix this bizarro world situation where you allow anti-social f2p resentful kids, with I am sure political attitudes you despise, to control and run your playground.

Overwatch is amazing with communication and you should be trying to capture the spirit of 2016-18 - but if that’s not possible then just mute everybody and stop punishing paying fans.

Because the former things doesn’t mean you’re incapable for inappropriate communication.

This is also just flat out false. I’m sure people have their reasons, namely dealing with toxic people, but some heavy fear of getting a ban isn’t one of them unless they have a history of doing so.

I don’t see why I should be muted because you can’t control yourself. I frequently use voice and text chat and have had zero issues.

People on here act like the reason chat is empty is because they fear a ban and not because some lunatics take their anger issues out on strangers in pvp games.

Nah you’re not paying attention and making your own assumptions.

Reports are not reviewed - it goes simply by numbers.

I’ve seen these copy-paste responses before to this issue.

… and yes, playing since 2016 - games are much quieter in voice and text now.

Well done for ignoring the trolls.

Me and many other people are there to win. I call out the trolls, people agree with me, endorse me, sometimes they’ll speak up too, but most like yourselves don’t want to get reported by the trolls.

I’m one of those many people.

Guess what I don’t do. I don’t get caught up in a flame war with trolls only to get penalized. I mute/block, avoid and move on with my life.

Most players are pleasant in communications. Hense the reason I don’t need to make some unreasonable suggestion to mute us all.

It’s not the preferred or even a reasonable suggestion - the point is the even more unreasonable policing role that Blizzard has given to trolls. Like I said, I keep it neutral - I ask, I point out, if they flame I’ll say, oh ok of course.

Bob, the trolls are idiots. We don’t need a thread with hyperbole to illustrate how messed up things are.

Report them and move on with your life. They’ll be dealt with eventually or they won’t. Life isn’t fair.

The point is they are not dealt with. They deal with us.

I’ll be going completely silent from now on, I’ve spent too much to risk it any further.

Like I said, 1 acknowledgement since April (last week) and it was so egregious I know who it would’ve been - I’m sure even the people who have given up on the reporting system, even the ā€˜it’s only QP’ people who routinely throw would’ve reported this one.

These stories genuinely confuse me; I actively use voice chat / text chat, and I talk back to trolls / toxicity (but don’t initiate any). I haven’t gotten a warning or anything… I even play a lot of Sombra

Dunno if EU is different culture if you are in the US.

That could be it, I play on NA servers

The great thing is you don’t need to say anything to trolls to mute/block, avoid & report them. Thus no risk involved.

They know they’re being obnoxious.

And in my experiences they can be dealt with. Not everyone gets off scott free. I can’t imagine wasting my time going back and forth with a troll during a match. All that would do is needlessly annoy me. And if someone is entertained by arguing with trolls, they evidently like wasting their time anyway.

This is a really interesting theory. EU also and experienced similar to OP, plus those being toxic in languages other than English were often unpunished.

Most of my reports for throwing are successful though, I do only report for that now as my chat is disabled.

And what does that achieve? You willingly engage with trolls and end up trolled. Engage with the people that are there to win. You choose to engage with trolls.

But I don’t care about them flaming, like you say, mute exists. It’s gameplay - creating one-sided stomp matches and all the other troll gameplay.

Only 3 avoids exist per week and usually I don’t bump into them again - but F2P has brought an endless supply.

EDIT - Blizzard recognises the problem here but seems to have gone back on their word to extend avoids to 10.

Thinking about it, although I have French friends in the game, I do get a lot of snide comments from the French and other nationalities sometimes - could be that stuff making it worse - as well as some not even speaking English.

… Saber it was a hopeless task but trying to appeal to trolls humanity and save them from trolling will never be futile - being punished for it is senseless however.

That’s what reporting is for. Like I said, not everyone gets off scott free. Switch out people you avoid. I do. Sometimes it works out, others it doesn’t. shrug

The heck are you doing trying to ā€œappeal to a trolls humanity.ā€

You ever heard the phrasing ā€œI wasn’t born yesterdayā€ Let that apply to how you interact with trolls. Which should be non-existant.

Sometimes they are just angry from past games.

I don’t understand the mentality of throwing because someone else is throwing but do try to make it clear that I am trying.
