A good junkrat being pocketed and even without is one of the most irritating heroes to deal with. He does insane damage, one of the best ults in the game, decent hitbox and like Mercy flies in the air making him harder to hit.
Junkrat does insane damage, that is insanely easy to dodge. At least the grenade spam. Good mine throws can hit hard if damage fall off doesn’t allow the target to survive.
Junkrat’s ult is hit or miss. An aware enemy team can shut it down easily unless the rat player gets very clever about its use.
And mine jumping sends Junkrat in a predictable arc. Be careful when using it with snipers or hitscan enemies around. They can easily blast an airborne rat out of the sky.
All I’ll say is there’s a reason why the only people who play him outside of Lijiang control in high ranks are the people with thousands of hours on him.
The main issue with Junkrat is while he is good at what he does to a degree, there are many hero’s that do the same but better. It’s very hard to be Reliable with junkrat, and unless your targeting half dead people it still takes two shots to kill people.
Landing two shots in a row on an aware enemy with junk is not easy. The arc, the slow projectile speed, small clip size etc makes it all fairly hard to do.
Mean while hero’s like Ashe can double tap people in under half a second, most only needing one head shot and one body shot.
Assuming junkrat does land every hit, with his rate of fire, is he out-damaging the other DPS? The danger of junkrat is the combo, which is also really hard to do consistently.
Junkrats combo is easy…
The only time the combo becomes hard is at long distances, but if you’re playing Junkrat you should be trying to get close
hes one of the hardest heroes to play at a high level but does have amazing peaks. Those junk specialists can be top20 regularly regardless of meta over the years. Usually there’s at least 1 somewhere in the world that high, and a handful in t100. Its amazing to watch them play. They know things about the map that you’d never discover even if you played ball or pharah
Id have to actually see him to rate him
Yes and no. The danger is the combo but the difficulty comes from getting into position to actually use it with any consistency on most maps and into most comps. From there it moves to airshots since you will miss combos with the target surviving on low hp, especially since his nerf, so hitting a follow up airshot is a huge increase in consistency.
His skill ceiling is absolutely massive but being anywhere close to that is crazy difficult. He also has a very low floor in lower ranks, which gives him a misunderstood reputation since most of the playerbase has never played against a good Junk and doesn’t even know how he’s played in gm+.
Pain.
Except he has no real ability to survive at those close distances, and many people do it better. Especially Mr homing grenade that is basically a junkrat mine but worse.
A body shot and a the HG is all it takes Cass to kill people unless it was nerfed and I didn’t notice it still did 120 dmg.
It is not easy. You have to close the distance, survive at that distance, and then hit a grenade that isnt spam and land a direct mine because anything beyond that will let them live and you will need a second mine you may not have and you will want to use to then escape.
Even after I hit GM I considered him skilless because I had literally never seen him played at a high level. You don’t see him often.
What’s fascinating to watch is the “streamer reacts to Junk” videos and how over time their comments have gone from “that hero takes no skill” to “that hero is dumb/annoying.”
They know.
