Junkenstein is such a chore now

Beating a dead horse I bet, but I absolutely loved it year 1. It was enjoyable for the first two weeks last year. It’s been a slog after the first few days this year.

  1. Why on earth can we not use any character for at least Endless? The only reasons are anti-fun, or anti-consumer.

  2. No new features, additions, or changes? After the disappointment that was the last event?

  3. No improvements to Bombardier’s unfun nerve-grinding AI?

At this point, doing Junkenstein in Arcade feels like a chore compared to Custom games without any changes other than letting you play your favorite heroes. Imagine if we had a real proper event utilizing all of the echenwald map instead of just the bridge, or at least a second stage inside the castle after the doors break. Imagine taking inspiration battleborn or destiny and having an actual boss at the end raid style.

Or did the eSports soak up all attention?

If blizzcon is a disappointment, I can’t imagine what the reactions would be at this rate.

i’m holding out hopes that blizzard is going to pull out something incredible during blizzcon to make up for the stagnant events lately. i remember how hype people were when they thought there would be a new summer games event. happened again for junkenstein. SAME THING!

if blizzcon doesnt put forward something really promising, i really think i might just quit outright. as much as i love this game, it’s becoming repetitive and frustrating. really hoping future events are better

That might help you understand what is going on.

Not really, because they had zero issue with releasing new content and balance changes before they had the Overwatch League.

Junkenstein is so boring it makes my eyes bleed.

I’ve played it like a couple times and that’s it.

I play it to get my weekly Arcade boxes; it’s the easiest way to get those things guaranteed. Wish they could’ve added more characters in though. Tracer and Brigitte are a lot of fun, but the last two years we got four characters, not just two.

Yep I do it with torb on easy to get my boxes. I dont know who in their right mind would play it without free loot boxes.

I think they cut down playable heroes to present players with some sort of chellenge. Which begs question who tested it since all achievments compared to last years were walk in a park.

I expect from BlizzCon new hero, animatic and eSport perks. Anything more will be pleasent suprise. Also I hope they will present us with Imperious in Hero of the Storm.

It is not like the devs are completely slient on this issue and this is on you if you do not wish to accept this answer. I find it quite annoying as well because I never complain about balance issues and now I feel like I am being punished. I do understand why they are doing this and I do not blame them or try and get following behind me on the base of all these OWL conspiracies.

Well, at least the halloween event didn’t get taken over with a blinding white background on the main menu which advertised OWL cosmetics, unlike for more than half of the Summer Games event this year. I suspect things like OWL and the WC are still taking some manpower, although they did say that their plan was to focus more on balancing and bug fixes for the moment. Granted Pharah, Roadhog and Torbjorn have recently had a reasonable amount of change.

The reason they dont want us using any hero for endless is because, Bastion, Orisa, Rein, Ana, bunkering at the door. If there weren’t achievements tied to endless, then yeah we should be able to play anything, but that’s not the case.

If they wanted to make junkenstein a challenge why on earth allow the new torb? He is has completely rendered the mode trivial

I didn’t even have the will to bother with it this year.
Also even if they add all the heroes, it will be still fun for about 10 mins.

The mode lacks replay value (everything is just the same every time when you play it except some hero interactions). Maybe if it was in a rotation in the arcade with all other event modes all the time, it would have been different.

I knoe the feeling, I pkayed the one game for the lootbox and I’ve been doing nothing but Random Heroes now for my 3 lootboxes…severely disappointed.

The mode with us having 2 plus years to hone our crafts has gotten totally trivial. I did expert in a pug on my first attempt and my mechanics are pretty bad. The new torb honestly makes the mode totally trivial.

I haven’t played it much this time. The anime backlogs is a lot and need to complete it.

We have two PvE events in this game - Halloween and Archives.

From what I’ve heard, seen and know, so many people prefer Retribution/Uprising to Junkenstein - and I have to agree. Here’s what Archives PvE offers that Junkenstein doesn’t:

Overwatch related lore - Junkenstein is the same rehashed Halloween tale.

The ability to go through the whole map - in Junkenstein, you’re stuck in the same area of Eichenwalde.

The ability to go whoever you want which can make some really fun team comps (all supports, all hitscan, all omnics etc.) and - in some cases - allow you to beat higher difficulties with strats that aren’t Torb - Tracer - Rein - Mercy.

In Junkenstein, you’re stuck with the same heroes over and over and team comps get stale.

These are just my thoughts and feelings, and what I’ve gathered from other people. I genuinely think Archives was more successful in the PvE department.

It’s Blizzard, as if they’d have trouble getting a big crew working on stuff like the events. Those who work on the lore of the game probably sleep 24/7 since nothing happens (no comics at all)

I don’t think the holiday modes were ever intended to be significant things to look forward to every year. Junkenstien’s production value combined with the still fresh “New Game Smell” I think kinda gave players excessive expectations.

Archives was always what the PVE content was really going to be focusing on, being that it’s the only source of in-game lore and world building.

If Archives 2019 is a bust, then yeah, I’ll start complaining about the events.
