Did they leave Junk Rat’s GOATS countering buffs in place all these years? His insta-kill combo is not fun to go up against currently in ow2. Did he ever get nerfs after they gave him all of those buff during GOATS meta. It feels like they didn’t. Maybe some slight NERFS are worth considering? Maybe to the damage the mine does? Should a cc ability also do that much damage? Probably not?
contrary to what low elo players think, we are still in a goats meta. (in a manor of speaking, not literally)
the difference is that the game doesnt allow us to play 3-3, so we are simply playing goats-flavored metas with 1-2-2.
this is why burst dmg is so prevalent. the thing that made goats sustainable was the healing and that never changed.
Yes.
His primary damage was buffed from 120 to 130 in 2019. It was reverted to 120 in 2020 and that was his last OW1 balance change.
His mine damage has been the same since launch. The only changes mines have received were adding 2 charges in 2017, long before Goats was a thing and then adding fall off in 2018 so the damage scales down to 30 followed by matching the throw speed to his primary fire. Although the final is more quality of life.
His primary projectile speed was buffed to 25 in 2020 but compensated by nerfing how bouncy his nades are. It was more of a rework than a net buff or nerf.
Other than that the only changes he received were quality of life/bug fixes and not meaningful buffs.
In fact they buffed him even more lmao.
OW2 Junkrat buffs:
- Projectile size increased from 0.2 to 0.25.
- Steel trap projectile speed increased.
- Steel trap damage increased from 80 to 100.
Pre-OW2 is just full series of buffs ever since:

He received this buff as he had, to quote the devs, “no place in the game” in the beta. He was that weak.
Largely QOL. It could be reverted and nobody would care.
This was never added to the game. It was meant as compensation for his trap slowing but never happened. Once that change was cancelled the damage still stayed at 80. This has finally been added but isn’t needed and could be reverted.
The last change Junk received was in OW2, which nerfed his trap duration from 3 to 2.5 seconds and his last OW1 change nerfed his primary damage from 130 to 120. But dont let facts get in the way.
And you’re ignoring the series of buffs on OW1 since 2018?
Which ones?
Adding mine fall off? Huge nerf.
Nerfing projectile size from .3 to .2?
Nerfing tire speed from 13 fo 12?
His primary damage was buffed to 130 then reverted to 120.
His primary speed was buffed to 25 but bouncing significantly decreased. Net no change.
Everything else is quality of life such as making mine jumping easier. Again, dont let those pesky facts get in the way.
The recent projectile size buff really surprised me. I don’t think he needed that.
If the devs do decide to nerf Junkrat, I would just revert the concusion mine and frag launcher projectile speed increase from 20m/s to 25m/s.
Although, I do think it is just a case of making other DPS more viable so Junkrat is mostly fine honestly.
The devs literally said he was statistically so weak that he had no place in the game
What are these if not series of buffs?
2019:
- Trigger delay reduced from 0.156 to 0.1 seconds
- Time to take control of Junkrat post detonation has been reduced from 1.5 to 0.9 seconds
- Projectiles maintain slightly more velocity on ricochet
- Projectile speed increased from 20 to 25
- Bomb detonation time reduced from 1 sec to 0.7
- Bombs spread increased 50%
- Projectile speed increased from 20 to 25
- Impact damage increased from 40 to 50
2018:
- Riptire now restores ammunition after completion
- Tire movement speed decreased from 13 to 12
2017:
- Junkrat can now hold two mines
- Tire’s movement speed has been increased by 30%
- There is no longer a time limit when wall climbing
maybe the stats don’t tell the whole story. KarQ has said recently that he is currently a great underrated pick.
No, concussion mine need to have less damage in 5v5 settings. It takes no risk and no skill to land one, and people still complain about Cassidy sticky nade. And mind you he have 2 charges with faster CD.
This was a fix for mine jumping as you couldnt detonate it fast enough. Zero impact on combat.
QOL. Change rarely impacts anything.
Big nerf with big buff. Net no change.
Total mayhem…really?
You left out the revert in 2020.
qol.
Nerf.
Doesnt match the:
That you claimed. In OW1 he wasnt changed in power from 2018 onwards.
A great underrated pick = not a throw pick anymore.
Let us not pretend junkrat is some secret sojourn level pick, that is beyond delusional.
Junkrat, at best, is fine. You wont get flamed by your team for picking him, you wont be public number 1 to blame when things are not going well anymore. That doesnt mean he is a top dps, it just means he is viable.
While I agree it doesn’t take a lot of skill but that is sorta their entire point.
A very consistent form of damage that combos well with his inconsistent primary.
It also has a very hard range limitation, from my experience Junkrat is not particularly hard to play around and kite from a distance.
NGL, I miss 130 nades. I could two shot torb turrets without any problem.
Junkrat’s primary fire damage was raised to 130 and brought back down to 120 years ago. It hasn’t been in the GOATS era in a long time.
Healing was reduced, somewhat globally some two years ago at this point.
This is largely correct.
As mentioned below, most these haven’t had much effect overall.
The one buff that has improved him was Steel traps greater tossing range.
I’m actually a big fan of these improvements. I’d hate to see them reverted, especially since the trap tossing range is so much nicer now.
There’s a lot of underrated picks right now. Most of them aren’t even seen currently.
Folks, Junkrat being present now is not unusual. He’s one of the few heroes in the Damage-role that has some method of control control beyond slows. It doesn’t hurt him not that compositions have also changed to favor him more. Like Genji and Bastion, the fewer defenses available because of the loss of one Tank have made him a great choice for a lot of the maps currently in the game.
Just gotta learn to avoid those chokes and be aware that maps like Dorado, and control maps greatly favor him and his shenanigans.
You joking right? I love playing Junk Rat but i find that he is so low health that often he gets killed with a 1 to 2 shot. You cant nerf him because he simply has a combo that hurts. Then in that case, All the characters need to be nerfed like Widowmaker. She 1 shot kills Junkrat often. Larissa? So strong that Junk rat hardly does any damage to her before hgetting killed. Pharah? Junk Rat simply has very little to no defence against flying.
People wanted stuns to be removed. Now we are having the abomination i call Dive-goats. High mobility and high sustain. You reap what you have sow.
