I recently joined PC Overwatch from console couple months ago. adapted well, hit low masters last season, and near masters this season. My rank between platforms is about the same. The biggest difference between PC and console is the number times a day i get told to kill myself, or how much a bot you are because the other team put up a good score on the first round. So i’m done joining team chat period (even if it hurts my sr). I’m not asking for pity or people to feel bad for me. Actually i have been enjoying overwatch much more, not having people screaming in you ear is pretty pleasant. I really just needed to vent, and maybe convince a few people to hold their tongue when you have a bad round or lose a game (no ones perfect especially me). If anything kills this game it will be its own players. I love Overwatch from the characters to gameplay, and if the only way to enjoy it, is to segregate myself from my team. Well you got to do what you got to do.
EDIT: To the people saying oh just join and mute people if they toxic. That doesn’t work! People’s emotions change as the match goes on. Someone chill the first 30 seconds doesnt stay the same through the match good or bad. Staying out of team chat is the best way to enjoy this game now. I personally wish more people would do what i do.
Too much thought. Too many feels. Just block, mute, report, move on.
if u are on EU servers just play on NA, EU is toxic as hell.
Also please don’t do this, if someone is being toxic, mute them individually, by never joining team voice you are hurting potential team mates that might not be toxic and might want to have a good time just like you
It’s sad that there’s that much of a difference between the players you are playing with on console vs pc, although I wouldn’t write all the players off on pc that easily. From my experience, from gold to near GM, I’ve encountered many toxic players that would say such things such as ‘kys’ but I’ve encountered many times more players that are decent human beings and will help your team win if you listen to them.
I would recommend joining team chat and listening to anyone speaking for the first 60 seconds. Most of the people that are going to talk during the match speak in this time, then do this:
- Mute anyone that seems like they might be toxic in the future
- Mute anyone who doesn’t speak up in the first 60 seconds
This way it will minimize the amount of toxic people that you listen to while maximizing the call outs and coordination that can be done with your team.
Oh man. But when a mic’d up Sombra gives you that count down to EMP, so good. Mmm, dat team work.
But seriously for the sake of your SR, I’d test the waters in TC and mute toxic players. The game is a lot more fun when it’s played the way it was intended and it’s a lot harder if you instantly lock yourself out.
I stopped using voice chat recently only because I’m sick and tired of the toxicity and name calling. Those people really make overwatch an unpleasant game to play.
You can also remove text chat aswell.
Yeah, it’s just a downer and too likely to happen to risk it in the little time I have to play each day. Ctrl-Shift-C to hide text chat, for those who don’t know.
