Jeff wants people to switch ->Ultimate charge issue

People have mains and often dont want to switch

but another important factor is that people dont want to switch when they are at 40-50 % ult charge and more.

maybe if you switch a hero you should be able to retain a certain percentage

I believe that each hero has a number value for ult charge
Some ults are easier to get

So to prevent somebody farming an ult and then switching to zarya a few things must be observed

an ult charge of maximum 40-50%
and harder to get ults should get lower percentages in comparison.

If you change constrantly you will lose more and more ult charge, but it wont be 0 (maybe unless you change 3 times in a minute

This could really help with insentivizing switching more.

Number values can change to be less ambitious then i put here, its just a ballpark.

Where did Jeff say he wants people to switch?

in one of his latest posts he remarked on the fact that they expected people to switch more, and that they hadnt forseen people sticking to one hero

switching is however punished heavily by losing all your ult charge

there is almost no insentive to switch

and SR is punished as well by switching a lot by getting weaker stats for the game

Jeff wanted people to switch and said he now understands why the game is played as it is. *

If OWL players can manage their ult-charges and still switch, so can you.

they hardly switch, they all play goats

Because goats is stupidly OP.

He’s contradicting himself then, because I have direct quotes from him saying that he wants to see the best Genji players playing Genji, not Zarya, and it was his design aim for all characters to be viable at all times. This was in 2017, I believe. It’s even pinned in the dev positions thread at the top of the forum.

its not strictly op,it just allows for much more mistakes ,other comps need to be played perfectly without mistakes against goat to win

but its easier to just do goats

That reminds me… I saw a match, can’t remember which, where the Hanzo shot off his ULT from spawn to no where because he was switching to another character. Didn’t even bother to shoot it in the direction of the opposite team.

are you serious. he said that multiple times.

i feel like it’s the least concerning. Switching in comp leads to less SR if you win and a bigger sr loss if you lose. that just screams blizz doesn’t know what they are doing.

asking heroes to switch and punishing them if they do

yes i mentioned this too in another comment, you are correct

Sr shouldnt be punished for switching

The loss of ult charge completely contradicts the whole switching thing.

Switch or get false reported and get banned later :ˆ)

Support section already stated that not willing to Switch is considerate game sabotage.

Sadly I didn’t save the email from a GM saying "Well try another hero that will help your team "

Yes, because he also said he didn’t want people to switch…

In fact, as far as I’m aware this is the first time he’s actually said that, but if you have other examples I’d be interested in reading them.

he never said that.

the only thing he said was that one tricking isn’t a bannable offense.

he never said that you shouldn’t switch

I don’t think keeping ult change would work. Sounds like it would be a bit frustrating and hard to predict.

Ult charge is a real reason why people don’t switch though. But I think just making ults less impactful is a better option.

You should he a hero you are good at that wins a game, not the hero’s ult. Like Zayra, you could be really bad but her ult is actually pretty easy to huge and is massively impactful.

Maybe if ultimates weren’t such a game changer in the first place.

He went well beyond stating that one tricking isn’t a bannable offence.

He said that he wants to see the best Genji players playing Genji and not having to switch to characters like Zarya, and he said that it was a design objective for him in Overwatch for each and every one of the characters to be viable at any point in the game.

Those two statements are the exact opposite of a switching mentality which effectively say that you should play the character you’re best at, and the game should be balanced to make that a viable choice for any comp.

On paper the idea is cute, but…

You’d end up with people using easy to farm ult charge characters like Genji/Tracer/Junkrat etc then they’d switch to a character which had more powerful ults.

you are taking that wildly out of context.
the context he was making was that he thinks there should be different SR for different roles. that a master genji might only be a plathealer for example so making him play healer in master is a detriment to your team
