was a bad idea to release echo for overwatch 1
I mean… yes, I get what Jeff means when he says he doesn’t want to not make Damage heroes again
But that doesn’t mean that releasing a Damage hero now, rather than a Support, wasn’t a terribly ill-conceived idea that hurts all three roles. I think it is a demonstration of clear… disconnect, shall we say, between the developers and community that they thought this would be a good idea, if not outright callousness or incompetence. Whatever the reasoning, it doesn’t seem like Blizzard’s decision are based on any understanding of the pulse or zeitgeist of the ladder community, and that’s something I think is going to seriously hurt them (and has in the past)
Am I mishearing things or did Jeff say we won’t be getting another hero this year?
That’s correct. No more heroes until OW2, and it sounds like he says “this year”
depends on when OW2 launches…possibly
So about 18 months of no new tanks and healers, uuuuuhhh, what were they thinking.
Your guess is as good as mine Even as a DPS main, I think this was an awful decision
The Support debate has been done to death, so I’ll discuss the OP portion of the topic. She’s like (a fun) DPS version of Sigma in that she has a high skill ceiling but can be incredibly deadly when mastered. I’m going to say right now that she’ll be a must pick if nothing is nerfed. Any character with the potential to steal a fight-winning and/or game-winning ultimate and use it multiple times in a short time frame is top tier.
It’s kind of weird how he said some stuff as Stylosa put it.
“A whole new OW”
“Last OW hero before OW2”
I mean, fishy but unlikely probably…
Also, why would he keep mentioning Echo is the last hero everywhere when we have at least 8 months left for Blizzcon?
At the same time, why hint there being more supports and tanks when they already released Echo as a DPS? Knowing we are desparate for a new support?
Too much conspiracy, better ask Doomfish…
Because Liao is mad scientist and best way to deal with murderous robots is even more murderous robot!
I get it. And, even if it was possible, we shouldn’t have the same number of heroes in each role. Tanks and supports have far more impact on the overall style of play in any given match for everyone on both teams. Damage heroes are still unique but more interchangeable. It’d be practically impossible to balance 16 tanks and supports without a huge number of Damage heroes to compensate. Basically, the game will and should always have the most Damage heroes.
Would’ve been better to just not release a new hero then to release a DPS hero TBH.
Moratorium on all new heroes until OW2. Sure the community gets that.
Even if Echo has been in development for years and years and her design made complete sense when she was conceived, she’s just not the character that’s needed now.
She doesn’t just not add to the state of the game - she will actively harm it until the new heroes from OW2 drops in XX months to redress that.
At best, she’ll increase cue times for DPS as they deal with new players maining echo. At worst she’ll ruin the balance of the game and scare of tank and support players as the meta fails to turn up anything to deal with her OPness.
Really now? One of the arguments of the caster was “Echo was DPSing in the cinematic”??? All supports have DPS things to use! Baptiste even has more dmg than Soldier and Sombra but he is still a support role! Mercy in the cinematic is healing by TOUCHING Mei and she is literally flying every time we see her on the cinematic … nothing of these is happening in-game!
Also, that joke about “we have many support and tank heroes in development for Overwatch 2” needs to STOP! We cant read the future! We don’t know what will happen with Overwatch and Blizzard till they release Overwatch 2! They might lose the community and the numbers which means no OWL, no money and the game might end like HotS. I am sure that HotS before the cancel of the e-sport had many heroes in development and now we ended up with 1 hero release every 6 months!
We need to talk about the PRESENT! The issues in the present! the NOW!
I think she’ll shake up the way the game’s played more than any other hero ever has just due to the nature of her kit. The sheer amount of possibilities with Echo (mostly because of her ult) is endless. I think it was smart to release her just to keep the game fresh until OW2. No tank or support hero would’ve been able to do that on their own in a healthy way from a gameplay perspective.
Ana was dpsing when she was the sniper of overwatch and she is a healer . They made her dps for the owl and because they give their majority of player base what they want . Tanks and healers dont have recognition.
Dps will say to you " uhhHhhH buuUUtt goatssSs" goats what. Goats what.
Goats was a good comp to survive longer the dmg creep.
Exacly!! we should not leave it like that cause the dps players will have 16 heroes to play till the overwatch 2 while the tanks and supports only 8 and 7!
the great thing about being a flex player…i dont have either of those…i have 32 heroes to play now
Honestly, those of you thinking Echo should’ve been a support haven’t thought this through. If Echo was a support, every time she ults you would lose a healer unless she duplicated a healer on the enemy team. But because she is a DPS instead you don’t lose anything because Every hero deals damage.
I’m betting on a Spring 2021 launch, so basically two years since the last support hero release, on the role with the fewest heroes to pick from. Also, I imagine that of the 6 or so new heroes coming with OW2, that they will be allocating 2 per role…Support will still have fewer heroes to pick from after the launch of OW2 than Defense/Attack had at the original launch of OW five years prior(twelve heroes combined.)
