Jade weapons really hammers it home

So instead of moving jade weapons to legacy, and letting you buy gold or jade with those legacy points jade will just go away and your jade points convert to legacy points that can only be used for gold weapons, and the new points will be for legacy weapons (gold) or whatever the new thing is.
So if you don’t use your jade weapons on jade you can only ever use them on gold and then they plan to do this again next year.

So is the point of this decision just for Blizzard to hammer home the idea that they can take away anything they want at any time so you better not invest anything into the game? Cause that’s what I’m getting out of it. Absolutely bonkers thing to do to a player base. Just put the jade in legacy status like gold. It doesn’t even make sense other than to psychologically mess with people and give them fomo they don’t even try and hide it.

I think it is just an out of touch decision.

It’s a small population that prize the gun cosmetics anyway. I got zero Jade weapons nor cared because green doesn’t do it for me. If they just let you get a point that lets you unlock a slider to pick your color, I’d rather do that.

Not a fan of the grass smoothie gear, so not going to miss them one bit. I guess they are an acquired taste?

I mean I don’t like the jade either since I mean honestly it’s not even jade lol. I’m just saying it’s an absolutely bonkers thing to do that just kind of shows disdain for the player base.

FOMO is in everything now. There is no escape.

Lucky me I smoke enough ca**abis to fear nothing and play their game for free lol.

They also generally made them slower to grind out compared to how gold weapons were previously, except during the Competitive Drive events.

That’s what bugs me the most: the Jade skins were given a significantly narrow availability window than gold skins, but didn’t get faster to unlock. It’s a really exhausting time sink to get the skins.

I like green, but I’m mainly a quickplay player; slow reward rates are obviously intended to increase player engagement in Comp, but for the most part it instead drove me away.

Unless they really surprise me with the skin color, odds are I’ll play even less comp next year if nothing changes.

Yeah I would be really bummed out if I liked them enough to have to play one of the drives events. I consider that my weekend of strictly quickplay lol. It’s terrible.

I dislike having legacy credits sitting there rotting right now, lol. Let me combine whatever credits I had to what I have now. Seems kind of annoying to have to wait for a weapon skin to leave before I can do that.

Theyre trying to artificially time lock the color so that it “feels more unique and represents the 2024 competitive year”

However, that is extremely stupid and literally benefits nobody besides the 3 people in the world dumb enough to think having something that a million other people have that was trivial to obtain is somehow special.

It’s a choiceTM.

Imo it’d make sense to have the shiny new yearly color be cheaper during it’s special year before going into “legacy” stock at the normal price. People who play during it get it for less work but it doesn’t cease being an incentive to play once the calendar ticks over.

Like if the standard price is 3000 Comp points have new shiny be 1500-1800 Comp points, Gold and Jade are 3000 now and next year Ruby or w/e they’re gonna launch here gets added to the 3000 point pool and Sapphire replaces it as the 1500 yearly one.
We can also get rid of the stupid dual currencies.
I don’t get the point of having it besides wanting to keep long term players from buying up the new things day 1, but they’d need something new for legacy players to burn those legacy points on and they certainly haven’t added that so they might as well wipe peoples point pools yearly.

They’re oblivious to the fact no one gives a damn about the green weapons. It’s such a low effort, low quality reward, and it shows how out of touch they are with their community.

Yeah this is such a bad call. And it’s not at all what they said when they announced Jade weapons a year ago. They basically said all new comp weapon skins will become legacy at the end of its year and can be bought with any comp points but the newest skin can only be bought with current year’s comp points.

Now they’re changing it where legacy points will only buy gold instead of all the old comp skins. That’s so crappy and there’s no reason to do that.

One thing to keep in mind is that it shouldn’t matter what color it is - it should be moved to legacy, not vaulted. You wouldn’t want a future variant color that you love to be locked exclusively to “players who played competitive that one year,” would you?

Was thinking the same thing…

“What if it were your favourite colour? Red? Blue? Cyan? Pink? Obsidian pitch black? Would you be mad then? Because it will happen then too.”

I’d like to know where they said that. Because they were quite intentional about an annual cadence from their first announcement of jade/emerald weapon variants at BlizzCon 2023:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5twiDhgnibU&t=1922s

Not to mention this blogpost saying:

They explicitly didn’t mention the Jade weapon variant there to suggest it’ll be unavailable after the 2024 competitive year.

Then there was this blogpost confirming it at the launch of the competitive year:

I don’t recall them ever saying Jade Weapon Variants would be available as a legacy weapon variant after the competitive year ends, and I’ve been mad about it since their announcement and update to competitive. If you know they said that somewhere, please show us.

I mean I don’t really care what they said I care what they decided whenever it was, and it’s bonkers dumb and hammers home to me that ever spending any amount of money on this game is the same as throwing it into a hole.

I cannot stand the Jade weapons anyway, the ugliest color / theme they could have gone with. I think they idea is theyre going to rotate a new weapon color variant each comp year but they should allow the points to transfer, that imo is their biggest mistake.

See the comment I made above:

They don’t allow that because they’re earmarked as “competitive year 2024 jade variant” points. If they could transfer, then the “competitive year 2025 new variant” points would be compromised by earned competitive points from 2024. It’s also why all competitive points prior to Season 9 were flagged as legacy.

Participating in ranked matches for a year (you can do that free) is the same as throwing money away?
They didn’t keep jade weapons so that (going forward) you can see someone with it and know that person played in competitive that year.
And this year when they add [whatever] varient, it’ll be a symbol of playing ranked in this year.
Why is that so bad?

Also, let it be known things in the vault are not gone. Vaults open.
The jade weapons will age like wine. Right now it’s ugly, but eventually it will reach a point that “it’s so ugly, I want it” and the vault will open again.
