Tanks: Don’t count your damage, make your damage count.
DPS: don’t count your eliminations, make your eliminations count (and honestly DPS should be concerned about final blows)
Support: Don’t count your heals, make your heals count (so what, mercy has gold heals, Ana slept rien/hog/reaper/Cree out of ultimate “x” times in one game).
Apologies…. Perhaps I took your post too literally.
You actually described exactly why gold healing doesnt mean much there, so thank you If the hog gets gold healing then there could be all kinds of valid reasons for this that have nothing to do with the supports playing badly.
Given the aim of a game is to win, only stats that directly, contextually support getting to that win are important.
Lets say your team’s Mercy has gold healing. They’re sitting back passively, healing easy targets and not damage boosting at all. Your team’s Ana has silver healing. However, Ana is hitting fight winning anti-nades, destroying the enemy Rein with sleeps and locking down the enemy Pharah with offensive damage. She also slept a nano-blade. She’s owning it, hard carry.
In that situation though, the raw stats say Mercy is best because she got gold, even though her contribution to the win is far less.
The point is, you simply cannot say “this stat means something” without specific context from each individual game. All stats are open to interpretation apart from Victory or Loss, and even those dont tell you your personal contribution.
Your examples clearly showed the potential for misunderstanding of context - for example, hog with gold healing may NOT mean the supports are playing/healing badly.
Given the requirement for context on the meaning/value of any stat, your statement “medals do indeed matter” is objectively false.
Given that you have just contradicted what i said without offering a valid counter-argument or validating your false statement, i fully support you not addressing it further in this thread.
Yes but high damge on you team and low kills means your team is letting enemy healers heal, DPS are mot following up in their kills which could me they are just jping targets and not finishing
I will address the newly added item here, that being the claim made in the statement quoted above that a counter-argument was/is necessary.
A counter-argument is never necessary in a case like this, where the original statement is simply factual, and as such stands on its own merits.
One might for example expect a counter-argument to occur in a discussion of whether dogs or cats make better pets. This is a debatable subject with points in favor of each side.
One would however expect no counterarguments from person A who stated the earth is roughly spherical when responding to person b who replied that it isn’t roughly spherical. The fact stands on its own merit, with no argumentation necessary
Did the tanks make space?
Is the mercy one trick hard beaming rein instead of enabling dmg?
Did your team ever group?
Did you combo ults ever? And if so was it properly done?
Did you rng into two players that only play the same role/hero?
Few reasons why dps might struggle.
Dmg is irrelevant a lot of the time if it doesn’t equate to teamfight wins. You can grab dragon and do 4K dmg every 2 minutes for free, or lob storm arrows into hog off cooldown. If they trans the grav, and the hog self heals the dmg so it’s not a kill then none of that mattered.
Was the soldier with 25k dmg on high ground uncontested beaming all game into hog/dva or hog ball or something like that? Good reason to have 25k dmg for free
Medals do matter. At least to me. If I’m rocking 5 gold as healer, yes they absolutely matter. The only one’s i wouldn’t worry about rocking silver/gold would be tanks or secondary healer…
My man, ofc you need to take in count that genji, sombra etc are not doing a lot of dmgs. But if you are hanzo, mccree, junkrat, ashe, echo, pharah (unless they have a hitscan but you should already switch), reaper, soldier and even torb, you should outdamages any tanks. The game is not going so well cause the reason is that there is a lack of damages, tanks have the right to complain (even if themself push too much and end up being out of positions to being heal so they are the problem as well but will never understand it).
So medals in general, not only gold, are important. A Lucio being gold heals over a main healer is a problem. A Orisa being gold dmg is a problem.
Just because they had 25k damage, literally means nothing, i can have around 18k-20k damage with D Va strictly because of her ult. Medals still mean absolutely nothing
Do they mean something, sure.
But are they the most important, no.
They’re also not something to be used to say “WeLL I HAVE 4 GOLDS, I’M DOING THE BEST.”
There’s usually more going in that we don’t know about because someone isn’t telling us.
Maybe tanks are charging in to back lines and forgetting about healers.
Maybe they’re ignoring the point to chase kills.
