so stop saying medals don’t matter…they do because if your tanks are getting 3-4 gold medals and you’re losing games then YOU’RE the problem
Lets say hypothetically, you’re on dps. The game isn’t going so well. You only have ~700 damage 4 minutes in, and no elims. Your tanks are now complaining about the dps because they have 1 elim, giving them a gold medal, and 1000 damage, also gold. This is one situation where gold medals don’t matter at all.
Another situation could be that the tanks say they have 4 gold medals. If the damage character has, say 5500 damage dealt, and a bronze medal, it could still be that the tanks have 5500-6000 damage. Not a big difference. Still tanks find the need to sh!t on dps players just because they have 2 damage points more than them.
This is why gold medals don’t matter.
Or they aren’t doing their jobs which means the DPS can’t do their jobs.
Gold medals will never matter. It could mean that you perform better than the rest of your team in that Match. But it could also mean that you charge in as reinhardt, damaging and killing one and dying in the process, leaving your team without a maintank. Well yeah, then you could have Gold damage/elims, but at what cost? You didn’t contribute in winning the Teamfight, you were just feeding.
Having gold medals doesn’t make you a better player than the others. If a Moira has 5 goldmedals, is she automatically the best player in that match and harcarrying?
It’s easy af to get gold damage and kills as a tank btw. They just have a big damage output. Hog can oneshot people, Rein can damage through barriers by firestriking/Primary, so can winston. DVA has the biggest damage output with her ult, getting that right it can give you 1000+ damage in a second, plus she doesn’t even need to reload. That combined with much more health than a DPS have makes it so easy to get these medals. But they still don’t matter.
25k damage as Hanzo = about 75 kills, which rare unless you have someone stomp on kids or bad Hanzo spamming into tank bodies.
25k damage as a Zarya is normal.
Damage is only damage. Kills matter
Yup! You can laser that roadhog all game on zarya but it doesn’t mean anywhere near as much as a hanzo doing 400 damage every fight by killing 2 supports.
Also, question, how come you keep switching accounts?
What if your dps is doing less dmg than tank, because they fight more agains low hp targets like widow/tracer instead of tanks?
Just an example scenario, tanks in current game state are there to do dmg as much as dps or even more, and this is direction game go in anyway.
Medals doesn’t matter because the game isn’t won by eliminations, it’s won by point capture and time. A single elimination at the right time that leads to a captured point, is more impactful than getting 20 eliminations throughout the whole match, because if you can’t capture the point then all your eliminations have no value.
Overwatch also gives you elimination credit for assists, so while it seems like you got a lot of eliminations, it was actually your DPS that took all the risks and made the finishing blows, while you just stood in the back as Moira firing damage Orbs in a general direction.
You’ve kinda contradicted yourself, haven’t you? When I play support and I somehow end up getting gold DPS, that means my DPS team isn’t doing what they’re supposed to be doing.
And no, I don’t DPS Moria.
Can’t wait till they add a proper scoreboard so dps players can’t come up with “gold medals don’t matter” when they’re on Genji 24/7 with 2 kills 500 damage and 9 deaths
Ah I will love the scoreboard
And because damage is not everything.
Heroes like Sombra, Doomfist, Widow, Genji, Tracer etc. are not going to have extremely high damage.
And because getting picks or pumping in damage is not a constant thing depending on the player only, DPS need space and heals to be effective
I would disagree here, I would often get gold dmg 15k DMG gold elims with hanzo and still loose.
On the other hand have ashe were I often get bronze or silver DMG silver elims and still win.
And I’m not talking one or two odd lopsided games, this season my hanzo is at 52 percent while ashe is at 64 percent despite not having as many medals as hanzo, simply cause ashe is more consistent at dealing with dives and peeling, can hold angles and do aoe DMG that will help tanks with brawls.
Also her ult is much better independent ly than hanzo, often Bob makes space or holds fort when a tank down.
Widow maker: Boop, boop. 2 headshots, 2 kills, 400 damage, both supports. every fight before getting killed.
The tanks DO get more kills and deal WAY more than 400 damage a fight… but we lose.
Is this REALLY Widow’s fault? Widow might not be getting medals, but IS doing their fair share of work.
Meanwhile Winston gets 3 ‘kills’ because he tagged them and tickled out 1000 damage a fight.
The game is lost. Did Winston REALLY do his part over Widow?
Point being, medals very rarely tell a whole story.
With that amount of damage, you should pat yourself in the back, but my money is on an enemy moira cancelling most of your damage with heal orbs, funny that you brag.
I was going to make a snarky reply…but I’m wondering if this is a Sunday thread…
It depends on the situation and play style.
Tanks objectively do more damage than dps due to the ability to pass protections and punish hard but in exchange they have very limited range and massive size.
If enemies fight up close and you have Reinhardt, it makes sense Rein would get gold kills.
Even if you have something like Junkrat because aoe does a lot of damage.
Another factor is survive ability, if you have the wrong tank so you don’t have a lot of protection or a low heal. Tanks objectively would be the role that would survive more. Making it so they have more opportunities to put damage.
If you have a Winston with a full team of brawl because the enemies run a lot of anti dive, and Winston just jumps in and die, he would put some damage up close, but you would have no chance due to lack of mobility.
Last thing to note is utility dps. If you have something like Sombra or Mei, their utility can result in a lot of value lack neutralizing shields or freezing the front line but very low damage… So ofcourse they wouldn’t have gold medals.
Overall this is a team based game where everyone depends on everyone. Sure some heroes like Tracer or Widow need less resources from the team, but overwell without the proper front line, heal and damage you wouldn’t really be able to win. Each role got strengths and weaknesses but at the end you also need to pick something effective enemies don’t counter, so a lot of times the gold medals holder can actually be the problem… Putting random damage on the enemies is nice and all but at the end you just feed their support. Midfight damage +kills> random damage.
You can do 5000 dmg in the right place at the right time and get more value than 25k in the wrong place at the wrong time.
could just be doing trash dmg giving enemy healers ult charge to counter your gain ult charge.
Like there are so many different things that can happen that make the numbers pointless.
Clearly you never play DPS
I’ve had much success with Mei and I rarely ever get any medals for damage and usually silver elimination at best
But at the same time I’ve blocked several thousands of damage with my wall which you don’t get a medal for
Some DPS heroes simply won’t ever get damage medals over tanks, Sombra is one of them, other heroes like Junkrat do heaps of spam damage that just enable the Supports to constantly have ultimate
Medals don’t matter without context and even with context people don’t interpret it properly anyway
Have you ever won a game with gold damage as a tank?
If you have then why is it difficult to understand that you don’t need DPS to get gold damage to win? Particularly with some comps…
Are you aware that half of the DPS characters in the game are out damaged on average by Zarya and Sigma?
If you are then why do you not expect your Zarya or Sigma to outdamage these characters? Or are you expecting your DPS to be significantly better at DPS than you are at tank?
Of course, if you are playing as Bastion, Junk, Pharah with a pocket or Soldier, you must get gold damage but it isn’t necessary for many DPS heroes.
This is well put.
Thankfully medal toxicity fades out the more you climb (there are exceptions of course).
