Bastion’s Ultimate is pretty bad… what’s it good for? Not its damage… it’s a repositioning tool and a mobile version of Ironclad.
Now, I have like twenty big ideas to make it less absolutely worthless and on par with Deadeye, but I can also recommend a very small thing that would at least make it feel a little less like a hindrance to the player.
Simply put, raise its direct hit damage from 205 to 230. That way, Bastion can take out McCree and Symmetra (most gripes against McCree though) in one direct hit. It just feels terrible when your supposedly powerful tank transformation Ultimate can’t kill just literally a cowboy.
Wouldn’t allow for a one shot on Reaper or Mei, and wouldn’t be a hindrance to Tank heroes so it seems pretty fair. Don’t think a damage boost other than Nano or Supercharger will change any breakpoints either.

You know it’s a bad ult when

It it often better to not use it and stay in turret mode, as it’s just better, so people can end up sitting on the ult for ages.

People swap off Bastion with or close to ult fairly regularly, as the extra few seconds that saves is often worth more than the ult.

How can a dmg reduction passive move?

Exactly my point… which is why I want it to be, you know, useful.

On treads. They solve every issue (they do not)

You know Bastion’s ult is bad when you are relieved to hear the enemy using it.

I’m relieved when the enemy team picks Bastion in general

Very much depends on the team environment, because sometimes I get matched with people who just won’t switch or change their strategy and keep mindlessly trying to push and shoot at him with M1…and then when you try to ask if we all wanna switch it up…nothing.
As for the ultimate, that’s a small nice buff.

Yeah… Bastion makes the enemy play the game on his terms, running in mindlessly like that means you’re going to lose.
But this was simply aimed at making Configuration: Tank, well, an Ultimate.

I’ve always wondered if it would be awful to give him a small amount of armor when he goes into it.

Bastion used to have this in the early days of Overwatch. Upon activation, Bastion gained 150 temporary armor. You can see this in the ability demonstration videos in-game.

I’m guessing nobody knew how to deal with him early on, so that was scrapped. Nowadays, it might be nice to reimplement.

Well, that was also a mechanic before Ironclad was implemented. That plus armor in Tank, but also no critical hit spot might make it too bulky. Bastion is already the healthiest DPS hero (HP-wise).

I think I would test adding a dot effect. A burn or something to the direct hits. I think it makes sense for it’s form and would demand better attention from players to rely on supports or map awareness if hit
If this buff’s sole purpose is to kill Sym and Mccree again then it’s not worth it. Sym and Mccree have been buffed… For that very reason. So they wouldn’t die to as many thresholds. Up the thresholds and… We’re back to square one.
Their HP buffs help them fight during regular combat. This is an Ultimate ability we’re talking about. It should be, you know, dangerous.

Yeah a damage ultimate against the heroes that direly needed to die less to such damage. They also survive a firestrike + bap window combo and that is the whole point of the buff they got. If the problem is them surviving too much, revert them to 200hp. Buffing things around them so that their initial buff becomes useless is counterproductive.
Bastion’s ultimate was built around the idea of being a one shot to low health heroes. Theres a reason it used to one shot Symmetra and Cree, too
Mobility plus heavy splash damage isn’t bad. Bastion Tank configuration is good for quad kills and changing game outcomes.
