I’m done defending this game’s story, I’m done defending the writers. I’m done caring about the plot. I’ve lost all faith in the writers and the writing team to bring us anything worthwhile from here on out.
We haven’t furthered the plot since Dec. of '16, we still have no time line, we’ve a million unanswered questions that just lead to massive plot holes, we’ve so many good, interesting characters still without a shred of lore.
I don’t know who greenlit this and I don’t care, but I cannot believe we got more lore for a damn HAMSTER over characters we’ve had in the game since day one.
This is a disgrace.
eta: I’m not talking about Wrecking Ball as a playable character, I’m very excited for a new tank to play and his kit looks interesting and fun to use. I’m talking about the lore, and that giving such extensive lore to a hamster feels sour when we have characters we’ve known for two years with absolutely nothing at all.
Jelly loves the lore in this game so much, it’s the reason I bought it.
I was excited to see where the story would go, but if someone had told me the story would be in the same place two years from launch as it was before launch, I wouldn’t believe them.
The story hasnt moved anywhere and lore is few and far between.
That’s why I’m disappointed with the new hero. We wait this long for a good lore drop but now we have to wait longer.
I love hammond, but I would love him more of updates we’re more frequent.
Who said I was leaving? I’m just done trying to defend the lore. I’ve been in the writer’s corners every time since the game’s release but this is the last straw.
But why does the lore matter? its never been a big part of the game and blizz just do it to keep 5% happy. Its uselsss, makes no sense and isnt directly given to you.
Its gained by a few short clips, few in games easter eggs and little give aways here and there.
I want the writer’s job to be honest, you can be as laid back as you want and if you take months for just a really small part you can always use the classic ‘‘we’re making sure it’s a great story, that’s why it takes time’’. I’m jealous.
I still have hope for the story, a very small amount. It will all hinge on what they do for the next animated short, or the next event they promised that will actually further the current timeline, instead of going to the past every event
I’ve never held the lore to a high standard, but that being said, I do remember what made me join the OW community in the first place.
It was the Infiltration short with Sombra, Reaper, and Widowmaker. The scenes were cool, the characters were cooler, I wanted to know more.
We are literally always left wanting to know more!
Even if it is just a FPS and the lore has 0 impact on the game, the heroes we can play are colorful and alive, a lot of us are drawn to them in a way other companies have failed when it comes to endearing characters. It’s like having favorite characters in a movie or TV show.
Like I said, I don’t hold the lack of lore to a particular standard (or if I do, it sure is a low standard so I am not disappointed like some people) but I understand why people are so focused and upset by the lackluster story.
Really disappointed in the lore as well. What we have is good and I really enjoy it, but what we have is next to nothing compared to how massive the Overwatch universe seems to be. The characters and their relationships to one another really have the potential to be great (the ethical disagreements between Mercy and Moira, Bastion subverting his nature and being peaceful, the divide between Hanzo and Genji), but it feels like all we get is some character interactions in game with some pity crumbs being thrown to us once every couple of months in the form of a comic or cinematic (which inevitably raises more questions than it answers).
