Clarification, it does say Overwatch 1. Emphasis on the 1.
While 6v6 is still a relevant debate which i do personally echo myself, there are legitimate drawbacks that have more to do with formatting rather than issues with the actual in game balancing and choke stalemates we used to have.
But im bored of the conversation, Season 9 and how they solved the DPS issue was genius that i dont think they get enough credit for.
And thats only the 1st step to a post Bobby Kotick Actiovision/ Blizzard world, that might be better written as Microsoft/ Activision/ Blizzard but i am not sure.
With the soon to be here Season 10 on the way, we have been given arguably the 1st glimpses of the future direction and identity of Overwatch.
What this means is that Team 4 finally have a solid idea of what they want and how they can fix some of the biggest issues our game has ever faced in terms of balance, and with Season 9 forcing them to pull out rabbits out of hats that no DPS main would ever have predicted thanks to the rightful vitriol for Ana and her Biotic Nade.
At the very least i dont think we are going backwards.
The biggest hurdle in our foreseeable future is the downsizing of all Blizzard Teams, which is offset slightly by not getting distracted with PvE side quests.
I dont have any reason to believe that balancing will be relevant for the next 12 months, what Team 4 will be judged on is how they fix Tanks being a masochism simulator.
Personally i think it involves bringing back Barriers for every Tank except Roadhog and Queen.
Until the day we get an OFFICIAL statement from anyone on the OW team saying “6v6 is not returning”, then I will always be there for it.
Besides, the reason tank wasn’t played is because it wasn’t fun and the choices were tight, the roster was what? Only 8 heroes iirc? Now it’s 12, so that’s one problem fixed, although fun is subjective, so I guess they just have to find that middle ground where all tanks are viable, but before they do that, I will always root for 6v6.
Ah, yes, what a well thought out response that completely ignores that disengaging is straight up impossible or it’s impossible to engage in the first place for tanks.
Except it is, because the devs may as well forget about the future direction if people don’t want to play one of the roles. I’m a tank main, and now I exclusively play OQ because tank is a joke in RQ. Queue times can go to Hell lol
The issue is the game feels worse to most people, and they blatantly lied about keeping OW1 around once OW2 launched. They literally took a game away that people paid for, knew they were going to do it, and lied about it.
So yeah, I’m sure Blizzard would love for people to “move on”, it’s a standard mentality for liars.
They actually didn’t. We’ve known the plan was to “merge” them once OW2 released since 2019 (I mean… how else was the “crossplay” going to work lol)
I don’t blame anyone for thinking this though because it was incredibly poorly communicated back then with their whole “redefining a sequel” narrative, but they clarified it in interviews.
Except it won’t be fixed. Mauga is the fattest example of tank’s issues. Off-tanks have to be broken or they’re useless. Mauga would be extremely easy to balance in 6v6, as he wouldn’t need the ludicrous amount of survivability. In 5v5 however, he is forced to be the meta itself or useless. We’ve had the MaugaMauga meta appear two seasons in a row, and both times it ended with him being dumpster tier.
Yeah, right now he ain’t a problem lol. Certainly was a problem when the meta revolved solely around him. The other off-tanks have spent significant portions of OW2’s lifespan being useless or are currently useless. Mauga is literally the only off-tank to have been consistently viable, and not for good reasons.
I don’t think that conversation is ever gonna die. The simple fact is that the format changed because there were no tank players in OW1 and if the same thing starts happening in OW2 (which I believe is happening), I don’t think any ideas are off the shelves and before Devs listen to someone like Avrl who is advocating for the entire removal of tank role, it’s better to keep all our options available
again i dont see him as a problem even if he is meta.
he became meta against dps passive when he was supposed to be the tank most affected by the dps passive, why is he being chastised for that when we should be celebrating it
