"its just a few hours a day!" "its just £10/$10!"

and other things you can tell yourself to cope with the fact that overwatch is objectively downgrading its business model to rake in the cash.

as bad as lootboxes were, knowing you all get to play with heroes and maps day 1 was great, i didnt have to treat the game like a job. the only people defending this are genuinely the ones that don’t have anything else to play, I swear. I played overwatch so much, over 1500 hours since 2016 because i wanted to.

the new system is going to make you feel like you’re obligated to play. it’s just so much worse here because unlike valorant, etc etc - we know this game did it right.

and seeing people say things like “you aren’t entitled to free heroes and maps forever just because you bought this game” is just hilarious. it is better for you, and you somehow want to argue against that

It would feel a whole lot less predatory if they just unloaded an archives pack every year for $60 with the new maps and heroes, instead of making everything this weird annoying treadmill.

I just want to play a video game, not log in to a second job.

“I can play for free, therefore any and all bad business practices are fully justified”

The mental gymnastics are strong with some of your people.

they dont deserve any money for that rubbish…

and how absolutely degrading is that btw lmao

“give us ten dollars or we’ll lock off parts of the game” LMAOOOO

this is just a giant money laundering scheme, release a half done game you never intend on finishing, lock it behind an annual money printer, profit.

Very few people still bought lootboxes after Year 1, there was zero need.

It is better for us as consumers no question, however, one has to be realistic.

We unfortunately live in a unfettered capitalistic society. Activision Blizzard is a publicly traded company beholden to shareholders, they have to prioritize making as much money as possible. OW1 is not pulling in anywhere near the amounts its capable of.

If a game isn’t making enough money long term, it’s not going to keep getting more resources year after year. Simple as that.

That doesn’t mean we should just lay down and accept everything, but the facts are that F2P and BPs are thoroughly proven at this point. The days of B2P for live service games are dead and gone.

it’s like they don’t know what “freemium” is

I wouldn’t call it mental gymnastics. Their actions are bad, but the reality is we can still play for free. They don’t take our money, we can still enjoy the game and deny them our money.

It’s not really gymnastics. It’s just making a choice for yourself.

no one is denying this but it is literally what these people do to rake buyers in. how many people do you think are going to get 70 levels into this pass, and think “i guess i’ll pay this much cause huh why not!”, how many people will keep playing free until it gets to a point when they just start putting money into it?

i would be more accepting of this whole model if game changing things werent put into this model.

There is zero enjoyment.

I don’t know what to tell you, the game itself is still fun. If you don’t think it is that’s your subjective opinion. No matter what they change now I doubt you’ll find fun in it if you find 0 fun in it now.

Because it’s entitled and unrealistic to expect endless free content to be made and given to you for 6+ years after you paid an affordable box price of 20-60$ one time. Period.

Do I think heroes should stay free and they should just monetize cosmetics? Yes. But doesn’t change the fact that OW1’s business model was bad and unsustainable for a modern live service game, period.

…or, people simply enjoy the game and the pass will naturally complete itself as a bonus for an activity the person was going to do anyway…  :upside_down_face:

I stop you right here. OW1 businessmodel was fine to finance the game until the let you buy event stuff with coins, added a duplicate protection, gave them away in arcade/ endorsements and playing as flex.

It was good for us I will not deny it. But not good in any way or form for the future of OW1. Plase accept this. Otherwise there is no point in arguing if people really think a live service game can push content out over years for free. Because OW1 was “pay once only” and those type of games die because the model does not work for those kind of games.

There is nothing to argue here about this. The move to F2P was the right choice and selling cosmetics. Heroes? No. But cosmetics in general yes.

Well… I think I wrote the same thing lol

People who play so little that they can’t unlock free content, should not complain that they can’t get insta-rewarded by doing nothing.
It’s the same when 3 weekly events come around and people complained they couldn’t get skins unlocked, because they played so little.
And at this point, we know officially almost nothing how the system really works.

As bad and scummy as it is, I don’t think a person not caring is shilling or doing mental gymnastics.
The dude doesn’t care and he probably doesn’t understand how unhealthy it can be in the long run.
