There is no need for discussion or argument. Blizzard gave us what we all wanted, the ability to test 6v6 while maintaining 5v5 and proposing that eventually both will be in the game fully implemented.
Garrett can safely rest now knowing his preferred format will not be erased
They said the one thing that’s my concern
“Another issue, and one that still gives me anxiety about opening this Pandora’s Box, is what to do with queue times if enough players prefer 6v6 to keep some form of it around. The team was not able to solve this issue previously. While we have some ideas now, there’s no guarantee that they will work. Is there a world where people are willing to live with long queue times to play this format? Maybe, but that’s a pretty risky move to make. We also have tens of millions of new players that have only played 5v5. We want to be openly mindful not to frustrate those who like the game as it is today.”
nope. If my queues range from 7-15 minutes as support now, I’ll just go make new accounts to avoid 25 minute queues when 6v6 returns
(or ideally stop playing)
Lets go on a tangent here:
The devs don’t know which path the game should take, especially when it comes to tanks. They stated that in a previous directors take
This reads very much like an iteration on it.
All this is a big experimentation to figure what the heck they should be doing.
Don’t get me wrong, finding a direction and balancing the game accordingly is an utter nightmare
When it comes to queue times, quality over quantity. Id rather wait 10 mins for an enjoyable 10 min long match than wait 3 mins for a miserable 3 mins long match.
It is the reason I became a Hog one trick. I am not sure how OG most here are; however, I used to be a generic DPS (hitscan) main that unironically agreed with everything AKJ said. We have gone through quite the transformation into the beautiful butterfly I am today.
Im just glad they are gonna test it.
Like this is my biggest pet peeve with OW2, in OW1 we had the PTR and later the experimental card, but they sorta got rid of it.
Like im glad now they are doing things like pre releasing new heroes to test and the quickplay hacks as well. But they should have been doing this all along and more often.
Why didnt we get to test sombra or roadhog reworks?
So im glad we are getting more test
God what I would give to be strong enough to be a tank player. I was a Zarya main for my first few seasons of OW1, and continued to tank until OW2
I’m strong (Brig/Lucio only-strong), but not THAT strong
It’s funny that they had no problem frustrating the millions of us who enjoyed 6v6 before destroying OW1 to make OW2.
I love a director’s take that confirms so many of the issues I’ve said 6v6 had. The same issues 6v6ers love to pretend didn’t exist as they attempt to rewrite history
Now I can just quote/link this directors take when they say how good everything was
Unfortunately this blog didn’t really open a window for discussions.
No 6v6 for now, maybe later. That is all that was said.
I’m so excited because it looks like they are testing role limits!
Oh, but we can animals, General. Nothing to talk about and yet there are countless threads. You can accuse Overwatch players of a great many things, but we are not lacking for creativity.
And how could they know what to do? You’re choosing between needing no tanks and having no balance, needing multiple tanks and having no matches, or needing a tank and putting the pressure on them
They clearly want a competitive experience to be the focus, but it’s hard to achieve that and have the casual experience be where everyone wants it in a game like Overwatch.
Tanks are a problem no matter which way you slice the game up, so it’s really just picking the path everyone is the least upset with.
Hahahaha, you’re right, my dear friend. The blog definitely won’t stop the debate from continuing.
It just doesn’t make sense for Aaron to think this post would somehow intensify the discussion, because the situation doesn’t change. Before the blog we had 5v5 here and the hope for 6v6. Now we have 5v5 here and an upcoming test for 6v6 that might take a while, unfortunately.
It doesn’t have as big as an impact as we thought it would have. I really prefer 6v6 and his answer isn’t ideal, but honestly we were expecting something like this.
In the previous take they basically said they wanted tanks to be bruiser and to be offensive for OW 2 and admitted that this direction didn’t work out.
That’s what I mean.
What is the philosophy for each role.
They put themselves in a corner with 5v5 and they are currently trying to find a new direction which is sustainable and fun
Tanks have definitely been working out in 5v5, people just still don’t want to play them because of the pressure to do well.
That’s where the whole counterwatch thing comes from, it’s people not knowing how to play around their counters so they switch every time one comes up.
Tank is the difficult role, and as such it’s always going to be played less. 5v5 didn’t change that.
It goes deeper
Tanks have more impact than any other role, meaning if they are at disadvantage it is multiplied. Counterwatch is exploiting exactly that weakness
I’m curious what’s going to happen to the tanking population. I think a decent percentage of supports and dps will transition over. I’m pretty confident that more than half of the current tank players will exclusively play 6v6 and that’s being conservative. I wouldn’t be surprised if 70% head over
