It's a decent patch, but

… it’s missing a few key line items.

First, Tracer is utterly dominating the game, why was she not touched? Nerfing projectiles is only going to make her stronger, and nerfing the DPS passive isn’t actually going to do anything to make her less mandatory

Second, junk? He’s… really bad at the moment. Why no junk changes?

Third, Mercy? She… also seems to be struggling pretty bad.

Like, I didn’t notice any egregious changes that they DID make, but it’s the ones they didn’t that baffle me.

They probably have no idea what to do with him.

He needs the combo and 2 tap on primary to be viable in any decent rank but they don’t want to increase his burst. So :man_shrugging:

While I can appreciate the desire to minimize burst, I think they went a little overboard while also disregarding that a lot of the issues with burst are Tanks getting focus-fired due to being high-priority targets….

I mean if they really want to dial back Junk’s gib, why not just extend the cooldown on his mines so he has them less frequently, but leave the gib in place? Then compensate him elsewhere, IDK how

Yeah this patch was kinda weird. They clearly are happy with the meta and don’t want to change anything up but still wanted to make tweaks. Not too sure how I feel about most of them.

Minus the reaper ult change. His ult was basically a glorified emote lol.

OW Team hates Mercy, this S9 is the perfect demonstration, she being one of the worst supports and we reached the mid-season patch, without receiving absolutely any improvement (while her winrate and pickrate continue to decline more and more every day).

They buffed a lot of the weaker heroes which by extension makes Tracer weaker because several are decent against her. You can change the viability of a hero without ever touching them directly.

This works both ways. They buffed every struggling dps but one so Junk is even worse than he was.

ITs really not a good patch, it doesn’t really address and problems or change anything in the game. It’s just needless powercreeping heroes.

Hoping for a one-liner twitter reply from alec explaining the oversight tbh

I’ve been absurdly tolerant with the balance, genuinely had no major issues with it since I started playing in s1 of OW2.

The past 3 patches basically completely ignoring junkrat is eliminating my faith in the balance team to do anything that actually considers the full game’s balance.

I guess we need to brigade for changes even harder than we already have

Oh absolutely he is even worse than he was before. I think they just do not know a way to buff him given that they do not want to bring back the burst.

However this was more in reference to Tracer who as she did not get changed and her counters did is now weaker than before this patch.

They probably shouldn’t make arbitrary design choices without considering how that impacts every hero :man_shrugging:

All it did was raise her skill floor a little. She won’t be impacted in high ranks.

She absolutely will be affected in high ranks. It is silly to say otherwise. Whether it will be enough is up for debate but if previously free matchups are no longer and require slight changes to how you play that by definition affects you. Whether it is enough is unknown but it completely illogical to say it will not affect her.

Deciding to lower burst and improve consistency was not arbitrary. If they did it by spinning a wheel or had a random number in mind, that would be arbitrary but a general goal of lowering burst and improving overall consistency can be described as many things but arbitrary is not one of them.

So far I’m thinking it wont be enough. Generally speaking.

So I said she won’t be impacted although I suppose it is an oversimplification. I’m sure you get the point though.

It is when it only impacts some heroes. Tell me, how did lowering burst for hitscans go? They have the same ttk. They made a change that irreparably damaged some heroes and are now trying to fix the mess without fixing the ttk problem some heroes face. It will not work. All while wondering why a Tracer who lost a number of 1 shot counterplay options is now running rampant.

Make him a better trapper. Like an audio ping when an enemy is in range of his mine. Let him use both mines at once. Rework his weapon so if he fires it full auto that his grenades becomes sticky bombs that explode after he releases the trigger or starts reloading. Maybe give him an extra shot in his mag.

There’s a lot they could do.

Bc only mean people hate tracer meta.

Because only mean people enjoy going against junkrat

No one wants to get dmg boosted diffed/have to swap to a hero that doesn’t lose the fight VS dmg boost as often.

Yeah they’re consistently happy with putting the game into the worst state it’s ever been in, lol

Lol. I just can’t see any of these changes having a noticeable impact on tracer.

This patch is god awful, duck; they need to just scrap all of it, including the Cowboy Beepbop stuff. Just scrap it.

And Venture’s coming in a month’s time and will probably screw it up more, cause there’s no way she’s been balanced around the Season 9 patch. They’ve probably had to spend the past month trying to make her work with the new health changes.

They do not have the same TTK. Soldiers went down, Ashes went down, Cassidy’s either went down or stayed the same depending on whether we are relying on double headshot or not. Basically the only unchanged one was Widow. Sojourn is also increased but whether or not she is a hitscan is a different conversation. So basically accuracy went up by burst went down, with the exception of when Bap pulls out a window and then the poor tank gets to exp OW1 life for a few frames.
