Zarya needs improvements for her viability out of Rein’s shadow. She’s such a slave of her Rein-synergy, why does she have to be that way?

Edit: Apparently Zarya only gains charge from Rein when people damage the bubble, not the barrier, it’s just that when he is with barrier up the curvature of the bubble pokes out past his shield, so only shots received on that portion, not peripheral shots on his barrier. Just edited according to what people replied to me.
Let her gain energy charge bubbling all barrier tanks from the damage applied to their barriers, not only from Rein’s.
This type of consistency increases her viability and it’s not different of what she can already do with Rein, the same potential Zarya has with him she should have with all of them.

She gets lower cooldowns on bubbles or she gets one more projected bubble to save the cooldown like Brig does with her packs, charge gain readjusted.
She gets more bubble uptime with charge gain readjusted accordingly.
The intention is make her viable with more tanks, out of only Rein synergy.
I like the sound of #2. Throwing a bubble on rein is basically free energy because it’s unlikely a team on ladder will punish you while he still has high shield health. Puts more weight towards managing aggro and defensive play with rein/zarya. I wonder if that would be enough to justify having lower cooldowns in all other situations tho. Worth a shot?
She doesn’t get charge from rein’s barrier. The bubble is just big enough to extend beyond the front of it. If you shoot the edges of rein’s shields she gets nothing.
Zarya doesn’t actually get charge from Rein’s barrier. Her bubble just happens to be exposed when Reinhardt has his shield up. If you shoot the corners of the shield, Zarya doesn’t get any charge.
I think that it would be cool. If Zarya’s bubble had more than one charge or if it was sorta like the one from 1/3/2 only toned down, maybe it only bubbles 2 people instead of the whole team or something.
Alternatively, we could lower the cooldown on her personal bubble as a way to keep her alive longer which would help her not lose charge because of death.
Anyway, I don’t think that we should change it to interact with barriers. That would be weird.
so if I am holding shield and I get bubbled, i give charge to zarya?
I played a decent bit of zarya myself and I dont think thats how it works.

I love these ideas, as a 200 hr zarya main I’m really sick of always having to play with rein, I’d love to play with other tanks for once and not be throwing.
You made me doubt myself, but I went on wiki and it really confirms it’s true:
“An ally Reinhardt holding up a barrier can also be a good Projected Barrier target, as all damage that would be absorbed by his barrier is instead absorbed by Zarya’s barrier.”
This is written under the strategy section > general strategy > 8th topic.

like you have to be hitting the rein only and not sides of his shield
it works 70% of time
(I did it ten times where I had a bastion at a rein holding shield getting bubbled and it worked 7 times out of ten do note there can be errors since the bot for some reason was wigging out and quite literally going around in circles sometimes XDD)

Strangely enough I can’t find any official confirmation of this interaction. Isn’t it weird?
I already knew that she can gain charge from damaging Rein’s barrier when bubbling him with shield up because I already experienced this in my games before, even when shooting the peripheral region of the barrier.
She isnt damaging the barrier
out of the three times from what I noticed the bastion hit the rein head on but the bubble never went out.
See you have to hit rein himself not the shield. there is a reason for that.
Zaryas bubble hitbox goes way beyond the shield.
you are not damaging the barrier per say you are damaging the actual bubble and she doesnt gain the same charge as if she were to bubble a rein that is not holding shield so this interaction isnt really usefull.
I don’t agree. This just makes her easier. I play with all the tanks. You’re suppose to pay attention to when a barrier tank leaves their shield. You don’t bubble Winston as soon as he drops down. You wait till his shield breaks. Or if he walks out of his barrier. That is the skill you have to master. Including on Sigma and Orisa. Rein is different because he’s always at the front line taking damage.
Also, the best time to use bubble is not when he has his shield up. But when it’s about to break. Mainly because the Rein is about the go on an attack. Or it fails and you won’t give a chance for people to stop shooting. They will be focus firing on Rein.
This is only true if the team is shooting in the center. Any smart person can shoot the shields sides and not charge Zarya up.
