The son of Dracula in Castlevania is alucarD
I wonder why some heroes have a callsign like Tracer, Mercy, Symmetra, Pharah, Sigma
and others are just
“Ana,” “Genji,” “McCree” lol
Well, it’s useful for at least some of them, to kind of tell you what the character does just by looking at the name, particularly for Tracer and Symmetra. Arguably it helps with Mercy, too, although they also could have just directly named her “Angel,” like they did in the French version.
then you might this interesting too
I’ll keep an eye out for Alegna.
Yikes
The really trippy part is that the last vowel sound on almost all female character makes sounds like a pronunciation of the letter A.
Moira

Zarya
Ana
Angela

Orisa
Something tells me that it depends on which name they came up with first. It’s also remarkable that mostly the earlier designed heroes have callsigns, while more of the later ones don’t (save for some exceptions). Maybe it indicates a shift in lore design philosophy? Like, they originally intended to give everyone a callsign, but came back on that rule, maybe.
Symmetra
Satya
Sombra
Olivia
…I feel like Sigma right now, as if the universe has just opened up to me…
Wait… Sigma also ends in A…
Sigma best girl confirmed!
Tracer, Mercy, and Pharah have lives outside of their uniform. Pharah and Sym also have done some more covert operations, or top secret operations, that warrant not calling them by their name. Sigma was a test subject; I don’t know the order of the Greek letters, but I imagine that the number of Sigma in the alphabet is where Sigma fell in line.
Reinhardt, Genji, McCree, they don’t have lives outside of OVerwatch.
Believe it or not, but that’s likely a ‘writing pitfall’ they’ve fallen in. I also write a lot of stories myself and in hindsight almost all my female characters have a name ending with ‘a’. After all, it sounds the most feminine in European languages.
It’s probably also a play on the fact that he’s a physicist, considering that the Greek letter sigma is commonly used in science (And it sounds much better than ‘rho’ or ‘lambda’ ).
But wait a second…
Ana backwards… is Ana!
ANA upside down… is VNV!
ana upside down… is eue!
What does it mean, Blizzard?!
More specifically, Σ (capital Sigma) represents a sum of elements, and he’s apparently the result of combining the power of gravity with a human mind.
