It sounds like many "older men" are stuck in bronze/silver?

I was playing with a friend and in 90% of the games I found voice chat was full of mostly older (40+) angry or drunk doods either angry they’ve been bronze for 20 seasons or just at life?

Do they have fun getting so frustrated in lower brackets? Why not play another game?

I’m an older player and, last I played Competitive (I haven’t bothered playing Comp for the last few seasons because of the huge problem with smurfs/throwers/leavers on Xbox) I was Gold/Platinum. Even made Diamond once back in Season 4 while maining Torb.

Heh. Sounds like me.

I guess a lot of old dudes successful in other parts of their life (money, kids, etc) and feeling frustrated they can’t win a video game.

Still, I was plat support once. I’m pretty happy with that.

Tried Apex and hated it. And Valorant looks crappy. Ow has got some of the best aesthetics of any game I’ve played.

well I’m assuming most of the adults stuck in the lower elo’s are there because they have more responsibilities and less time to focus on getting better at a video game.

Its not just older men, its also older women.

Its mostly the case because many older people have family already, they have less time to improve and game is just relax and they dont take it so super seriously. Also if you will go to gaming without sharpening your mechanical skill for years, you will have hard time. Not to mention that reaction time and ability to learn new stuff is usualy going down with age.

I played with older men ( around 40 to 60 of age ) and most of them are chill, less toxic than children who shout at the mic!

Its probably one of the reason they dont climb, because they are just chill

Im an "older man " i guess. I start my day at 7am every morning, working out , eating, and woooooooorrrrrrrrrrkkkkkkk, then regular maintenance stuff when I get home. By time I’m done with all that , I have maybe an hour or 2 to really relax , and after staring at a computer screen for 8- 9 hours at work , playing a video game doesn’t really come off as ideal .

I was traveling for work about a year ago , I was in Seattle Washington where I was working with tradesmen a lot . All I did was work and play video games, i climbed to my peak on my main account . It comes down to time, "older guys " just don’t have it. And dealing with kids and egotistical dbags on the internet… lol … no thanks

I mean people sound older than they are. I’m in my 20’s and people mistake me for 40 plus all the time.

I am diamond/masters but it just depends how good you are. People 40 plus can be good at the game.

Some pro valorant players are pushing 40.

I’ll be 35 this year, between work, personal life (having children and responsibilities), travel time, and personal injury, I simply don’t have the time, energy (for the most part), and my reaction times are far lower than they used to be. Back in season 14 (I think) I hit my peak of 3580.

I’ve met quite a few women down here.

Most older players have full-time responsibilities in life and can’t play OW in the same way that teens (or NEETS) can. That being said, there are still a fair number of older players in higher ranks too. There are plenty of players in their 30s/40s at diamond and above. But the majority of them don’t have the kind of free time required to participate at the pro level, and/or already have careers that have much better long-term viability or pay than OWL can offer.

Would rather play with 30+ players as trying to play with these days kids is impossible. Every game is just nonsense spewed from these kids in gold rank …
“trash player” “Worst player in the game” “Terrible” “avoided and blocked”
Nonstop singling out a player to blame them because team is losing.
Worst of all are these twitch social media kids. The whole game is nonstop twitch emotes in voice form. “sus amoeguss sussy pwanksters” holy crap. After telling him to just shut up because team work is impossible he calls me a pea dough file. ??? Easily gold / silver is the worst rank to play in if you want teamwork.

I’m turning 30 this year and I’m Masters.

Long-term viability of being an engineer is definitely great!! But Sinatraa made more money last year than any engineer will in probably 5 or 6 :joy::joy:

Because they’d rather say that the game is rigged to keep them in lower Elo rather than accepting that they’re not as good as the younger players.

I’m in my 40s, the highest rank I’ve ever gotten was a footstep into Diamond and now I’m in low Gold. It’s partly due to peaking and not being able to improve, and partly due to the toxicity in Team Chat. I refuse to collaborate with other people whose vocabulary consists of strings of cuss words directed at me, for no other reason than I’m not as good as they think I should be. I don’t have the energy to fight back, and in many cases, I’m not going to sit there and take it. Muting all chat has some setbacks, and there have been plenty of times I simply exit the game mid match, because my sanity is more important than SR.

I’m guess they either have too big of an ego (cant admit they need to improve so they don’t do anything to play better) or just don’t care (drinking/smoking and playing cause it’s a game)

I was playing with a friend and in 90% of the games I found voice chat was full of or mostly kids (16-23) angry, whinny, entitled and toxic doods either whinny because they’ve been bronze for 20 seasons or just at life in general since they are playing hours on a video game instead of out with friends (if they have any irl friends) or the 20+ year olds because they still live at home.

Do they have fun whining and being toxic to strangers in lower brackets? Why not play another game or go outside and party like they should be doing at that age.

oh wow. you should be a professional profiler then to assume a person‘s age by their voice only.

Some of the veteran fighting game players are 40 or older now and they can still stomp the youngsters in tournaments. Especially games like Street Fighter where some of the stuff they were doing in the 90s is still relevant. And the mechanical requirements to compete in a fighting game at that level are much higher than the average OWL player.
