The fact that Blizzard won’t hire more people to focus on Overwatch 1 while Overwatch 2 is in developmen is insane.
If you need to develop a game, you don’t leave all of your other games in the dust. You hire more people. The fact that people are ok with this is even more insane. Imagine if Fortnite halted development because they were making a new map or something like that. It would be stupid. Because it is stupid.
It’s almost a 4 year old game with barely any new players coming in.
How are you going to compare a game that makes barely any money to FN?
I don’t really care for new heroes/events honestly I just want faster balance patches.
It’s a horrible call on their part and I really think it’s gonna bite them hard. This’ll mean every patch will have to be ON POINT, otherwise this game will die.
Beyond eSports/OWL and cosmetics, they haven’t really been paying much attention to improving the gameplay experience for the community for some time. Workshop is really the only true exception, as that didn’t benefit eSports/OWL, but that was a side project. Other features such as Role Queue and Replays were of benefit to eSports/OWL.
They’re currently hiring for 32 positions on the Overwatch team.
The fact that they are giving all the PVP stuff to OW1 for free while they could just force you to buy OW2 is insane as well. They had to FIGHT FOR THAT keep in mind.
They aren’t leaving it in the dust, when OW2 releases, there will be a huge update of content with multiple new maps, a new game mode, multiple new heros, and lots and lots of new cosmetics.
Every game goes through content droughts, MOST games lose support completely when a sequal is released.
This type of attitude right here is why the devs never talk to us anymore.
Learn to CYB.
I didn’t know that. That’s encouraging. I’ve felt, just from the pace of things, that they could use a bigger team.
Barely any money…
Viewing rights.
Adverts on OWL/
Merch sales.
Lootbox sales.
Game sales people are still buying the game.
Sale of the rights to make 3rd party merch (Jinx hoodies/wild bangarang leggings etc)
Overwatch makes plenty of $$$
the overwatch team are those that are working on OW2 though, it doesn’t mean that OW1 will get more support
Factually, we don’t know why the devs don’t communicate with us, nor provide a roadmap or semi-regular updates on some of what’s been happening internally and what’s potentially coming. This is the only game I’ve actually encountered with these rather unusual decisions.
from the esports scene sure.
from the base game? no. why would you sink money into the base game while making a sequal with a huge burst of content, when its not making any money?
Compared to FN, yes it’s peanuts. No one buys lootboxes anymore.
It’s like your parents got a you puppy cause you asked for it and then it grew up and you got bored with it so they taught it some tricks and even though they taught it how to roll over you were upset it couldnt play dead.
think when the games came out
Overwatch - 2016
Diablo 3 - 2012
World of Warcraft BFA - 2018
Starcraft 2 - 2010
Warcraft 3 - 2002
These games have had the lifespans expanded beyond what you typically get for $60.
Blizzard is due for some new titles. If you know anything about Blizzard they dont takes 300 days to make a game and call it done and push it out. The only exception would probably be World of Warcraft but thats a monthly paid subscription game so it makes sense they need to keep new yearly content out for paying customers. Unless your still buying lootboxes 3 years later your not contributing to them paying devs to keep making you content for free. New games need to be coming out for Blizzard to keep making content cause you’ve already gotten your money’s worth.
There’s 2 new blizzard titles coming soon and WoWs got an expansion. Thats great news to me.
Yer they do just because you dont doesn’t mean nobody does.
Well, realistically they had to pull the resources from OW at some point. The scary part is how quickly it happened. After year 2 it already felt like the game was in maintenance mode with the bare minimum of updates to keep players around…
actually we do know why.
The Jeff Kaplan himself said they are reluctant to give updates along the way because when things have to change, or things have to get canned the community gets upset over it and pushes that anger on the devs.
We have accepted a stagnant game for 3 ish years and only NOW it is unacceptable? Hm…
No its not acceptable, now its just so obvious they are doing it on purpose.
Yet there are other games where either community managers, devs, or someone else official communicates regardless of that. Nobody’s asking them to reveal everything that’s on the way, but they must’ve known some stuff that was coming up such as Role Queue, rather than reply to a random thread saying something along the lines of “super duper secret stuff” a few times. That provides little to no useful information for the community.
Possibly the most forced metaphor I’ve heard in a decade…
