I am a new player of Overwatch and I find it very hard to unlock Kiriko, Sojourn, Ramattra, and Junker Queen. They require me to win 35 matches and keep track of each hero’s progress separately for the tournament.
And that right there is your problem. You’re focusing on it. Don’t focus on it.
Just keep playing and they’ll be unlocked eventually. If you focus too hard on it, you’ll lose focus on the matches you play instead.
But overwatch requires frequent hero changes and kiriko is important, and when I need it, I find I haven’t unlocked it
Its not 35 wins, its 35 wins on tank.
Now do that for each new hero and on different roles everytimes.
I still dont have ramma unlocked on this account.
I dont honestly care though.
I dont like the new heroes much except kiri
Welcome!
Don’t worry about it. Too many people go all drama queen about not unlocking things when they feel they should be entitled to unlock them. Don’t put on that tiara - it will not make you look pretty.
Wins (and losses) will happen in an organic manner as you play the game. Just focus on getting the most value out of the heros you enjoy playing and improve as a player. Unlocks will happen when they happen. Just enjoy the ride. We play games for fun - so have fun.
If the game is not fun for you, then just don’t play. There are plenty of other games out there. . Follow your bliss.
And, you’re responding specifically to me, why?
If you’re new and you specifically want Kiriko, my advice is to learn Moira and Zenyatta and just have fun playing those two. Conceptually they are not difficult. They do require awareness, and Zen rewards mechanical aiming ability for you to get the most out of him. Aim trainer custom games are recommended if you have the patience.
You will get a fairly large number of wins in quick play if you learn to contribute to your team with those two supports.
By the time you “outgrow” Moira, you should have Kiriko ready to go.
Edit : switched acquire to require, duh sorry.
You almost have to given how the unlocks work. If you are playing tank, you need to decide which of the two you want first. If you want to change roles, you need to change challenges.
It is a horrible system that is very punishing for new players. I assume it is just designed so they give up and spend money…
Like you said just play and it will unlock, but depending on how you play its a chore.
It’s only a chore if you let it be.
How is it punishing? 35 wins is nothing if you don’t focus on it and just play it casually.
Old players also have to unlock it if they didn’t pay for the BP
my friend owned the game since 2016 and he’s on this mission rn to unlock them too (apart from Kiriko which was given to old players for free) he return to the game about a week ago after trying OW2 for a day or so in S1 lol, but I think he’s already getting bored trying to unlock the other heroes
Though, maybe you’ll get enough wins unlocking all the other heroes too as you’re new
they make it take so long so you’re tempted to fork out the 900 coins to purchase one of those heroes.
What? That is hours upon hours of effort. If you average game is 6 minutes, which is a bit on the short side, that would take you 7 hours for one hero assuming 50% winrate. In all likelihood it would take substantially more time as newer players are not likely to win half their games when they initially start. Most people are not even going to play this game long enough to unlock the 4 we have right now.
It is fine for regular players, sure. But that is not what we are talking about here.
And don’t forget
Push/Koth/Payload/Hybrid are long games compared to 2CP in QP
I always go play Assault in the arcade when it’s there, get the weeklies done even faster lol
Yeah it’s totally not pushing until you get people in your competitive matches who cannot go Kiriko etc.
Me too i didnt get rammatra still dont have, i dont feel like grinding 35 wins on tank to get him.
Imagine having to put in an effort into unlocking something you can unlock for free… Gee golly!
Yet, we see new players joining competitive after 50 wins that took them what, one weekend of playing casually? No, your assumptions are wrong there, bud.
And we should care, why?
No, the reason why people won’t play the game long enough is more due to a horrible matchmaker than the new heroes they can unlock for free, just by putting in a bit of effort, but i guess today’s generation of gamers want everything for free without having to put in any effort whatsoever…
Yeah that’s why tons of people wanted to pay $59.99 or w.e a full price game costs for Overwatch 2 instead of it being F2P
Also most other games have currency you can save up to purchase new heroes, this game gives a measly 60 each week. Even getting Overwatch coins from Microsoft rewards gives you more coins a week!
“Today’s generation of gamers” You mean the F2P model y’all have helped push forward with whale spending which punishes kids because they don’t have money? Spending $2,000 every time a new case/crate comes out on Team Fortress 2/CS:GO and you wonder why so many games are going the F2P model route parents used to be able to just buy the game, but now they have to keep buying the kid Vbucks, Robux and stuff because y’all made it this way.
It was NOT our generation it was YOURS.
You can queue as “All Roles” and wins count for all locked heroes. 35 wins is not that much, tbh.
It’s not punishing whatsoever.
Tons of people being people like me who paid money for OW1. Yes, F2P was the wrong monetization for sure, but here we are and there’s sadly no going back. The only thing we can do is try and affect the developers and Blizzard in general in terms of the path they take from here on out, by voting with our wallets aka not buying anything from the cash shop.
Be that as it may, and even as much as i hate this monetization and pitiful rewards they dish out once per week, it is what it is. Once a game goes F2P, there’s really no going back to Buy to Play.
I was born in the 70’s, bud. I’m nowhere near being a part of today’s generation of gamers. I’m part of the old generation of gamers and haven’t helped push any F2P model as i personally despise the F2P monetization model.
No, it is very much today’s generation of gamers who made it possible for companies like Blizzard and korean MMORPG developers to feed off of whales, since you all want everything for free without putting in any effort.
I rather take a Buy to Play game any day without a cash shop than a F2P game with scam offers and price tags that makes you want to punch whomever is in charge of said prices in the face with a sledge hammer.
Thank you. That’s exactly it. You just need to complete some challenges and a run in the practice range and win 35 matches in QP. That’s not a punishment as some people in here would claim. You get to learn how to play the game at the same time as well, so it’s a win-win, though seeing the quality of a lot of fresh players in comp these days… I’m not so sure about that ‘learning’ part
Yeah, no this has been going on for about 20 years, this ain’t nothing new, it’s only gotten worse. And that’s because the generation who started it all are now older and spending even more!
And then mobile gaming doesn’t help matters whatsoever, and the majority playing mobile games and spending are probably 30 and not 15 because parents will tell them no if they want to spend money in games.
Kids on Roblox getting permenantly banned because they used their parents card without permission because they really wanted some clothes but their parents said no, so they tried to steal it but the parent did a charge back
