Issues with servers

Hello, I have been encountering a network related issue recently and i cant seem to fix it any way i tried reseting router countless and many other things but the issue persists. The issue is as follows: my games have giant latency spikes that i cannot seem to get rid of. This only happens in overwatch 2 and i cannot figure out how to fix it. My connection is wired so this shoulnt be happening. It was fine before but ever since i restarted my computer as a whole only saving my documents it has been awful. Every fifth game has no issues. Whenever i plug my ethernet cable out and in it fixes but only for that match. I would very much appreciate your help and I hope that you will be of help with this issue. Thank you in advance!

Sounds like some of your network equipment is on the way out if this solves the problem for a little bit. I’d test components one by one.

Could you, in short tell me what to test and how? And also i dont get why my equipment would be going out its a year and a half old at best and the issues are nowhere to be seen, overwatch being the exception.

Age of components doesn’t matter. You’re resetting your connection every time you plug/unplug, can mean the network card is being flooded by the router because it has a problem, or the card itself has a problem. Sometimes it can be the cable, too. You would want to work with the ISP to test these different pieces of the setup.

Or you’re just experiencing a very unlikely coincidence (maybe other software is involved?) for every game you perform these steps. I play every day and haven’t been running into any server issues, and that’s why I think the issue is likely with the home equipment due to the plug/unplug situation you’re describing.

Im having the same issue !! And it seems like its with alot others too

Players only post in tech support when encountering a problem, and there haven’t been many threads on the issue. Generally when there is a server problem, the forum is flooded with new threads.

I’ve been having this issue for about a month

5 or 6 disconnections per game (characters moving in straight lines through walls as I lag out, being shoved out of the lobby, and then being loaded back in)

There was a span of maybe 3 days where it was fine, then it regressed again

“stay in the match or you’ll incur a penalty” is such a joke when the match is unplayable "

Same issue the last few weeks. Thought it was me. All my gear and connections are perfect (all other games) except Overwatch. It’s lag spikes, stuttering and rubber-banding that has become pretty prevalent over the last 2 weeks. Multiple people in my games talk about it.

It’s like you take a few steps, stop and the game takes an extra step or 2 for you. Or you trigger an ability, it seems to go off and then it hasn’t. Lastly you run a distance, and all of a sudden you are back where you were only you took a few steps in the direction you weren’t running.

I have been through the connectivity troubleshooting documents, checked other games, did trace routes to Blizzard IPs. Nothing. Seems like the internal hardware of some of the servers might need to be reviewed.

Has anyone on the Blizzard side run through the troubleshooting steps?

You’re describing packet loss, which would be an issue between you and the server. It doesn’t have to be the ISP, but it’s probably one of the routes they contract.

All games are hosted in different cities and buildings, so if your issue is only with Overwatch, that route is probably not performing as expected. Running network tests (as mentioned in the sticky threads, like PingPlotter and WinMTR) will help you see where the problem is happening.

I don’t work for Blizzard, but server issues are always reported on the Bnet client or via Twitter. There are no ongoing server issues at this time. I’m playing on Chicago and Las Vegas servers everyday without running into these issues, so it does sound like packet loss like I mentioned.

The issue is becoming untenable for East coasters. Comp games constantly disconnecting leading to penalties. All the reports of server issues. But ok no issues with your game. Noted.

I don’t work at Blizzard, but I do play from the East coast.
